Sitrep in Mozambique

We went by 4x4 to Barra Lodge in April this year - didn't enjoy the holiday at all - I felt so sorry for the people living there. They absolutely strip the sea of all it's resources just to make a living because they really do not have any other choice but to survive. Very poor country. There is NO infrastructure whatsoever.

One thing I never seem to find, is discussions about the difference between Asia decolonisations and African decolonisations, for example Hong Kong versus South Africa.

Different culture & work ethic in Asia compared to the rest of the world.

What else could we expect?

The saying goes "Egg on Face"

In Africa it's... "Coconut in Mouth" :erm:

No matter how painful... these people will always shoot themselves in the foot... regardless if they're politicians or the starving masses... look at SA too :wtf:

Despite all of this they still have a parliament and everything where they discuss national policies for policing etc.

and the mandatory hammer and sickle and ak47 is always lurking somewhere in the background. yawn.
like i say... communism is the opiate of the banana republic.

Hong Kong isn't really a good exmaple, as they went from being British colony to being a Chinese colony.... no real decolonisation.

Other couttries in Asia, as well as in South America have the same problems that decolonised countries in Africa have. It would make a good study to find the similarities and causes of problems in decolonised countries. At the moment over here all we hear is "oh well its Africa" whereas its not...

Well Asia is doing pretty well. If you go Singapore they are actually proud of their British heritage. TV ads show clever Poms and eager-to-please Chinese, happy they can make the Caucasian boss happy - the boss invariably is an idiot as well, just for show. Malaysia is not bad either. Foreigners are treated with extreme respect. In other parts of Asia people have gotten over their colonial pasts and got to work. Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand etc. all trying to develop and moving ahead.

The African heritage at large again, It's the same all over. Just the place and time varies. Viva Africa. Blame Apartheid and colonialism.

Face it Broers. The whole of Africa need "Managers" to keep things going and to remain viable and intact. I see no way forward ever for any continent in Africa unless Africa is re-colonized again by new "Masters".

You know what I love about countries like Mozambique. They are totally screwed. I mean TOTALLY. When you drive through Mozambique you realise just how screwed it is. There is no real infrastructure to speak of. Maputo is OK in that it has a few buses and stuff but for the most part it is just a mess.

Yep, 25 years of civil war will do that to most countries.

Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan , etc lots of sea traffic, lots of trade, and many people flocked into them when the communists grabbed China and North Korea, taking their money and business with them.

Well now that China opened up HK and SG have become redundant. Now SG is opening up casinos to pull in Chinese visitors. The nice thing about SG however is that unlike Macau which is one big casino, you can do other things in SG. So one can go on a disgraceful (as many Asians consider gambling disgraceful and Western decadence) trip without appearing disgraceful - it gives you plausible deniability. :).

Yes but that is the thing that I find so hilarious about the Mozambique government. They actually think that what they say in their little meetings and the papers they sign in their offices mean something. As though what they're running is actually a country and not just a giant pile of rubble with some AK-47s sticking out of it. Like children playing 'house', OK and you can be the minister of finance, and you can be the mommy and you can be the daddy, it is absolutely ridiculous.

We're talking about a country that has an AK-47 on the flag. ON THE FLAG!

Sad but true, but HAHAHA, that made my day. +1

Every Circus requires a ringmaster and a few clowns

Every Circus requires a ringmaster and a few clowns

ROFLMAO true.

Problem is Mozambique isn't even a circus. There is no tent, nothing present to actually let it qualify as a circus. The various residents of the "circus" don't feel that the ringmaster and his clowns have any power over them and so do whatever they want regardless of what the ringmaster says. Yet the ringmaster and his clowns still behave as though what they say matters and pretend they are actually running a circus. It is just plain ridiculous.
