Since joining forces last Sunday, farmers, farm workers and police in the Mafikeng area in North West province have apprehended six suspected farm attackers, according to a report on Friday.

On Thursday they arrested four men just two hours after a woman was reportedly overpowered in her farm shop, Beeld reported.

Kotie du Toit was attacked by four men in balaclavas on Thursday morning.

After taking money from the cash register, they took her back to her home, tied her up and demanded the keys to the safe.

"They held a gun to my head ... I prayed out loud the whole time. God was there. One of the robbers stroked my hair and said: 'Sorry, Ouma.'"

They left, and after she managed to free herself, Du Toit called for help.

Local security forces were mobilised, along with farmers, herdsmen and local businessmen.

"We cordoned off an area of about 500 ha with vehicles," local farmer Wynand Buys said.

"Farm workers were dropped off every 50 m so they could see each other and spread the word if they spotted the robbers. Herdsmen patrolled the fences."

Two suspects were spotted when they crossed a road and a farm worker spotted another hiding in the grass.

Eventually all four surrendered to police and after they were arrested, Du Toit's stolen belongings were found in two bags in the veld.

In a separate incident, farmers caught two thieves in the act in a local farm house last Sunday and they were swiftly arrested by police.

Some good news for a change. It's nice when everyone can work together.

to me that is the saddest part of the whole article

So, for a short while at least, the Komando system was put back in place...and lo and behold.

Indeed it worked. Wait for the ANC supporters to come in here and try to discredit it. WTF They will never bring it back. It is RACIST :D Note who did make the arrests. The SAPS HA HA HA Well, at least they pitched up to take the spoils.

It might make robbers who would not normally kill, be more likely to kill. If they had killed her they would have got away with it, is what they will think

Agreed 100%.

So the message you suggest we send is that it is OK to rob, assault and torture, as long as you don't kill?

No, of course not. I'm just saying that the more chance there is that someone, who would normally not kill, might be caught the more likely it is they will kill, in order to avoid getting caught. If they think they will get away with a robbery without killing, they won't kill. Just an observation.

Huh . . . What twisted reasoning is this? Oh ok. Only now I noted who posted it :D

So increasing the quality of our policing in this country will, according to your "reasoning", lead to more even more murders? I don't know if I should laugh or cry....

The kommando system isn't racist. Funnily enough, the people who tend to thrive in it are. Funny coincidence really.

I bet the AWB members that were shooting at black people in the cars all those years ago were SAPS ;)

Before anyone else chips in, I'm chatting to the "journalist" ;) a kommando system would be very useful if it was extended to other areas

summary for those who can't understand:

1.) There are openly racist people who were in the kommando system
2.) History, look it up
3.) he is apparently a journalist, but with his grammar i have a bigger chance of appearing in a Kurt Darren music video willingly

Disagree. If they had found her dead, they would more than likely still have carried out the search. And if they want to kill, they will kill, period.

Life's funny like that sometimes...

I mean, after they left, the victim managed to free herself and called for help.
If I was that robber, the first thing I would think is that next time, I'll kill her so she can't call for help.

Of course, if the increased quality of our policing simultaneously coincides with an increase in the quality of our justice system, and a decrease in corruption all round then yes, this will lead to less murders since, once caught, there will be more convictions and criminals will actually stay behind bars. But these guys will be released eventually, after getting an education in how to be a real mutherfckr in jail and it's possible that they won't take any chances with leaving the victim alive next time...

WTF is your point exactly? So what if there are openly racist people who were in the kommando system? Openly racist people are governing our country as we speak.

I was referring to the tactical effectiveness of the Kommando system in hunting down and catching criminals in a rural setting. All based on the counter-insurgent training we underwent in the SADF.

So what is your solution? Should we stop trying to catch criminals, since they will end up back on the street anyway?
