Skoda has shown near-production version of it's compact electric SUV.

This is Skoda's new entry level EV and it's Epiq

With a name like Epiq, Skoda's new small electric SUV had better be decent...

Following the Superb comes another Skoda that thinks rather highly of itself – the Czech carmaker has revealed its new Epiq electric SUV at the Munich motor show.

It’s part of Volkswagen’s ‘Electric Urban Car Family’, so it’s Mladá Boleslav’s take on the Volkswagen ID. Polo and Cupra Raval. The important numbers? The car gets a roomy 475-litre boot, up to 264 miles of range and the company says the price of the new Epiq will largely track its combustion-engined sibling, the Kamiq, which starts at £25k and tops out at £32k.

The dinky crossover gets Skoda’s latest family face and T-shaped rear lights, some sharp creases down the side and a thick C-pillar that will make rearview parking cameras a must-fit purchase. Inside, we’ve not managed to get a look at the car, but Skoda promises there are the usual array of hooks, compartments and clever details. Even some useful buttons on offer, too.

There are no further powertrain clues from Skoda either, but we can safely assume that it'll match its VW Group siblings.

Skoda Epiq wants to be the affordable electric SUV for everyone

The story around electric cars has been one of compromise since the first EV launched. You could either have a long range, or you could have an affordable price, but both? That was impossible. But automakers have been slowly closing that gap, and Skoda, Volkswagen's practical Czech brand, just unveiled the Epiq, a small electric SUV that promises a usable range, plenty of space, and a price tag that doesn't need a second mortgage.

Revealed as a near-production vehicle at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, the Epiq is Skoda's clear message that the era of expensive EVs is coming to a close. While the final version won't hit showrooms until mid-2026, the showcar gives a solid impression of what to expect.

The Epiq is the first production vehicle to wear Skoda's new "Modern Solid" design language, which trades soft curves for a more confident, chiseled look. The front features a closed-off panel Skoda calls the "Tech-Deck," flanked by distinctive T-shaped LED lights. Its compact dimensions, measuring just 4.1 m long, put it in the small SUV category, making it the smallest of Skoda's electric cars, slotting in below the larger Elroq and Enyaq models.

Skoda has built its reputation on clever, user-friendly interiors, and the Epiq looks to continue that tradition. The company is keeping the interior of the showcar under wraps for now, but it is expected to share its layout with its Volkswagen cousin, the ID. Cross. This means a likely combination of an 11-inch digital instrument panel for the driver and a 13-inch central infotainment touchscreen.

Skoda details the Epiq's power, batteries, range, and performance

Skoda previewed the Epiq all the way back in 2024, then introduced it in September of last year, and today the brand is finally giving us more details about it, along with a bunch of photos showing it in camo. The Epiq is going to be fully unveiled before the end of June. It uses the VW Group's MEB+ platform, being the first Skoda to do so. Unsurprisingly, it's front-wheel drive, with three motor options.

The entry-level Epiq 35 provides 85kW (114 hp) with 11-second 0 to 100 km/h acceleration, the mid-level Epiq 40 option goes up to 99kW (133 hp) for 9.8-second 0 to 100 km/h, while the range-topping Epiq 55 will deliver 155kW (208 hp) and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 7.4 seconds. Maximum speed is capped at 150 km/h for the Epiq 35 and Epiq 40, and 160 km/h for the Epiq 55.

Skoda Epiq is a small electric SUV with big promises on value

Skoda is getting ready to show the world its newest creation. The next small SUV from the Czech brand is called the Epiq and it will officially debut on May 19. The new EV is meant to be an affordable choice for families, but the brand says the interior will feel much more expensive than the price suggests. Most people want electric cars that do not break the bank, and this model promises to solve that problem. It uses a fresh design style that the company calls "Modern Solid" - the car is supposed to look tough but simple.

The first official images of the cabin reveal focus on a clean look. The dashboard sits in a flat, horizontal line, making the inside of the car feel wider than it actually is. Skoda added a soft, upholstered section to the lower part of the dash to make it feel cozy. The driver gets a small 5.3-inch screen behind the steering wheel to see speed and battery info. This screen has a unique six-sided shape. In the middle of the dash, a much larger 13-inch screen handles the music and maps.

Even though many EVs put every single control inside a screen, Skoda kept some real buttons. These are called "haptic shortcuts." They sit right under the big screen so drivers can find them easily. There is also a dedicated wireless spot to charge a smartphone. The steering wheel has only two spokes, which looks modern and gives the driver a clear view of the tiny dashboard screen. Skoda also used indirect lighting inside the car to make it feel more like a living room.

Practicality has always been a big deal for this brand. The Skoda Epiq is not a giant vehicle, but it holds a lot of gear. The trunk offers 475 l of space. If you need to carry something big, like a bicycle or a lot of moving boxes, you can fold the back seats down. This opens up 1,344 l of room. For a car this size, that is a lot of space.
