Hi Guys

I'm looking at putting together a new PC build to serve as my media center/music production box.

I'm not keen on 4K right now but don't want to shoot myself in the foot if I want it later. Considering I can save a bit by opting for the Haswell i5 4460 instead of they i5 6500 I am leaning towards this. Does anyone have experience or insights into whether the 4460 supports hevc hardware decoding at 4K or has enough power to handle it without?

I would prefer to avoid a discreet gpu as I want to keep the build as low power as possible especially on idle.

Any advice welcome

Thanks

I came across this article while doing some research a little while ago had some trouble finding it again. Basically it's now H.264 and H.265 265 being more intensive to encode than 264. Going buy the article it looks most modern CPU's will survive the process so buy the best you can afford now.

A modern pc that runs 24/7 should cost you like less than R30/month in power. That is 24/7. If you want to, do the math, but it is really peanuts.

Thanks for the input guys. Ended up going for a Skylake build I found at a good deal
