Skype and MSN problems

I have a 192 ADSL line. Am running Skype and MSN when I work.

In both MSN and Skype, it keeps telling me contacts are signing in every few minutes, even though they are not.

And in MSN, when in a group chat (or normal chat), it keeps removing me from the conversations every few minutes, even though it doesn't say so on my side. On the other side, it says I left the conversation, even though I didn't.

I have two PCs connected to a Telkom 4 port router, and both set up with their own IP and Gateway. Everything else works fine, except for Skype and MSN. Has anyone experienced this?

My initial thoughts would be that you are having concurrency issues -> You might only be allowed one concurrent session. You would not really notice this browsing, and seldomly with stuff like email, but with any systems like MSN, Skype, etc, that needs to be connected to their service the whole time - one of your sessions will be dropped.

MSN you can configure to use a proxy server; Skype I am not sure of. But you will need to install something like Squid and use that as a proxy service.

Proxy

The other people I skype and MSN with don't have the same problems, and I'm pretty sure they have no proxy server installed. Is there anything else that one could do. Can one increase the number of concurrent connections?

Well; The first thing I would do is to find out from my ISP how many concurrent sessions they allow - This would at least eliminate this as a potential problem.

There is no way except changing your ADSL package to change your concurrency. This is controlled by your ISP.

Make sure each skype client has a different port allocated and each of these ports is assigned to a specific IP in the router.
