Hi all,

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but i'm at my wits end with this one. I have a site with multiple users and all of them use skype to communicate. About a month ago random people are suddenly unable to connect while others work fine. I can't put it down to a version of Windows or Skype as it's a mix of everything from XP to Windows 8.1 and all versions of Skype. I've tried downgrading to older versions of skype and upgrading to the latest with the same result. I had initially thought it was something on the clients network like the proxy or firewall, but when connecting the pcs directly onto the net through 3G or straight onto the adsl router i get the same result.

Has anyone else come across this problem and managed to resolve it?

Probably not the same issue, but we have had some serious skype issues recently. All file transfers are now proxied and not p2p, calls often drop and break up. It was fine for the last 5 years :mad:

This happens on a fibre line with massive capacity. Google hangouts work just fine.
Other people are affected too, see http://community.skype.com/t5/Windo...-Skype-6-18-0-105-and-6-18-0-106/td-p/3442885
I can confirm this affects Linux, Mac and Windows.

Network problems? Is it only skype that can not connect or everything?

A couple of quotes which may help from twit.tv who use skype a lot.

"...dedicated port for Skype (any port above 1024 will do), and open that port for UDP connections on my router."

"Skype overwrites the computer's audio and video settings. And these settings usually need to be re-set each time you plug in the headset. "

The client in question has both a 10Mbps business uncapped adsl as well as Neotel fiber lines, i don't think it is a bandwidth issue. Everything else works fine, pop mail, Dropbox and a host of other custom programs they use. If it was something like a dedicated port or networking issue, surely it would affect everyone and not just a few random people. I don't think it is a network issue either as i have already tried connecting these few people on a seperate connection off the network and get the same error. I try with my personal details and it logs in fine, but with their account it won't. I know there is an option of creating a new account for these users but then they would lose all their contacts and client lists so i am keeping this as a last resort.

@WolfByte

I had a similar issue... could not resolve it, tried Skype portable, and it worked on these problem PC... I copied their local Appdata Skype stuff across to the portable install, and it all worked.

A full installation could not get Skype to connect, the portable just worked, and has been working for weeks now.

Maybe worth a try?

Probably a firewall issue - firewall is not able to handle the multiple P2P outgoing/incoming connections?

Not a firewall issue, i tried the Skype Portable and that works fine without any extra configuration other than signing in. Thanks for the tip, it's saved us a lot of headaches.
