Skype Config for Neotel

I have used Skype a few times (Just audio, no video), not to bad but could be alot better. Skype Version: 3.8.0.154

From what I can tell I would need to call Neotel and get my incoming port opened.
Here is what the setup looks like:


What would be the best Port/s to use for Skype?
Any advice or feedback on the setup please.

The port number wouldn't really matter and to the best of my knowledge when you request incoming ports opened from neotel they open them all and you are responsible in terms of running your own firewall.

After requesting incomming ports be opened from neotels side I would personaly change it to some random number (4-5 digits should suffice) and then just open the port you selected in your firewall.

Thanx, I will just choose a random port number that is close to what Skype uses as it's default and add the exception into Zone Alarm.

I only have just 1(5) incoming ports opened on my connnection so far and one of those is only for Bitcomet's use, I made it a trouble ticket and specifically asked for which ports I would like opened My thinking was only open those in a range that I would use and not have numerous open possibilities.

I see on the Skype options below we can also check Ports 80 & 443 as an alternative, by default The Web Server is normally Port 80 and experimental web Services on port 8080. Those ports are safe so nothing to worry about, Port 443 is a UDP Port that can be used for various applications like Skype, SSL, Remote Desktop etc...

Trial and error, will play around some more and see what works best.

Skype wont work properly simply because you have a very limited upload speed which wont carry your voice nicely.

you will be able to see your mate and hear them - but get used to typing if you want to have a convo...

the fact that a fast voip phone is sitting on top of the modem...might that be why skype doesnt work ? hmmmm lets contemplate the money.....

Skype Works Beautifully

After playing around with the port settings and config I found the best way to get optimal use out of Skype is to use the port/s I requested to be opened as Incoming Connections. Port number does not matter as the Port I am using now is no where near the Default Recommended port for Skype.

1. Enter your Port for Incoming Connections.
2. Uncheck the Ports 80 and 443 used for alternative connections.

Voice to Voice is fantastic, better than I had it when on ADSL.
Video to Video is still a little shaky but then again I am on the NeoConnect Lite Package so yes [email protected] I am limited by my upload speed. Prime users might find it alot better.
