I have several devices which I have Skype installed on at home. They range from a Note 2, Note 3, iPad 3, Note 10.1 2014 edition and even an iPhone 5.

I have used Skype for many years and have never had any serious issues. I have noticed though that within the past year, (Since Microsoft has taken over) that the quality of the application has seriously dropped.

I used to use IMO messenger when it had Skype support. Now that IMO is not compatible, I am forced to use the actual app.

Here are some of the issues I experience:

A very popular issue is that even though you change the status as away or even offline sometimes, it does not reflect this from another device. Skype reflects that you are online constantly even if you are logged out. This results in people thinking that you are ignoring them etc.

Another issue is when receiving photos or pictures from my family overseas. The first few pictures download and the rest get stuck in a pending state which is really annoying. I have only been experiencing these sort of bugs quite recently. You either need to log off and restart, or resort to email, which defeats the purpose of an IM.

You also get the sudden app crashes and disconnections. When your mobile or tablet has Skype in the background, it needs you to log in randomly.

As you can see, I have several devices ranging from iOS to Android and they are pretty recent devices which are updated regularly and I seem to have a similar experience across all of them.

Are any of you experiencing similar issues? Or do you have solutions to any of them.

on 2 android deviices, my 4 linux distros, my windows and hackintosh install i am set as invisible. i set it on one (i suspect it was in my debian install) and all the others followed suite.

on the pic thing - i don't use skype for that - why not use the multitude of available services like flickr? it's the same data usage and the accounts are also free. or am i missing something?

haven't experienced the crashing either.

i'm no ms fanboy but i really can't say the service has declined (and i primarily use it on linux).

I had a Skype number redirecting all my local calls to it while I was away and hooked up Skype on my Note 2... I barely ever got a call through to it... All I would get would be the missed call or voice message notification. Then I also used the s-view app with my phone and my (Chinese) S-View cover and every time I opened it the call would end... So I gave up with that and stopped using a cover...
