Skype lags and drops on chat

Hi,
I cant work this problem out.
I'm on adsl, and everything seems to work fine, except skype.

When I chat on skype the messages incoming and outgoing can take
ages to receive or send. Sometimes I only receive a message a few
hours later.
When I write a message I see at the top "Message '.....' not delivered yet",
however if I change my status from online to away the messages eventually
send.

But at the same time Iam on msn, and that works fine. I opened up the ports
for skype thinking that would help..... it didnt.

Is this a router problem, a computer problem or a telkom problem?
(I have updated and reinstalled skype a few times, but no luck)

The IM's regularly seem to lag for me but I'm only really concerned with the audio aspect so as long as that remains at a high quality then I'm happy.

When I talk.. the line often drops..

And when I use the chat, the messages take ages to deliver or receive.

my 2 cents is that i find msn faster for text and skype perfect for voice. i use both at the same time to get the best of both worlds

It seems this is a problem on skype. I read on the skype forums a lot (http://www.skype.com) and there are quite a number of people right across the world complaining about "message not delivered yet"

And from what I read, it doesnt sound as if anybody really know why it is happening.

Although the audio quality on Skype is very good, I prefer using Yahoo Messenger or MSN Messenger (or Windows Live Messenger as it is called these days) because I also get the "message not delivered yet" message quite frequently on Skype. It's very annoying! I don't encounter those sort of programs on Yahoo or MSN at all.

As a UK user of Skype and MSN, I can say that I have never had those problems - except when I call a SA user....

When i get a message not delivered all i do is give the other person a missed call & it seems to force the connection, works 95% of the time
