Hello,
Does anyone here use Skype on their pcs connecting to the internet via edge on Virgin Mobile.. I know its a unique case but I am looking into trying this setup as it seems to be the cheapest solution for what I need, I made a skype call on 3g/vodacom today and it was clear.

Will skype calls be possible, with an acceptable amount of clarity, using Virgin Mobile and Edge?

Do all Virgin Mobile coverage areas offer EDGE?

I use it. It's not super but adequate, provided your device establishes an EDGE connection. If it's just GPRS, it's very unstable.

Potentially it's possible - if you have good coverage on a site thats not over congested. But presently the network seems to be very unstable in the data arena. And since it's mostly during peak times -I'm guessing they don't have the capacity for the demand.
So wait til they upgrade (which could be anytime) then yeah - Skype is cool.
(Peak data times between 19:00 and 23:30)

Since EDGE is still a GSM technology (2G), it can be used without any major upgrades to sites required. So I'm pretty sure their whole coverage area has EDGE (I have never not been in EDGE cover).
I think the only place you might miss EDGE is in a shopping centre where the microcell coverage system is slightly different technology to the outdoor macro type. But I'm pretty sure these have been done too.
