Not enough upload

I can not think that this can be the only problem, a 10 mb line cant even sync at 1mb upload, and i'm getting about 480kb upload on a 2mb..what is your skype experience like? isp and cam?

A 10/1 line will perform substantially better than a 2/0.5 when the upload is the deciding factor.

I had the same problem with my 2Mbit/s line until I got a Mikrotik router and implemented QOS on my connection, giving high priority to Skype traffic.

With QoS in place is the 512k upload sufficient for good quality video calls? How are you identifying outbound skype traffic are you prioritising the whole source address of your pc or you are only picking up skype traffic? I remember skype is quite a challenge to identify on the network. Thanks :)

With QOS in place it's more than sufficient, hardly ever have a problem. I created a layer 7 protocol entry for Skype under the "Layer7 Protocols" tab in the "Firewall" section, and then created a mangle rule to mark all connections and packets on my network that belong to Skype. Then under Queues, I created 2 new queues (incoming and outgoing) in my Queue tree to manage the bandwidth for Skype based on the mangle marking, and made sure the Skype queue had a higher rate limit than other types of traffic. Works really well and definitely marks all Skype traffic my network accurately. Before I did this I had constant buffering and lagging with Skype calls and really crappy video. Afterwards everything worked a lot smoother.

Awesome. Will try the same for skype and other services i have. I wonder if OP could try the same as well? Grab a Mikrotik or other router they are comfortable with which can do QoS

The problem with Mikrotik routers for non-technical people is that it obviously requires a very good understanding of networking.

By the way, when you create your Layer7 protocol definition, call it "skypetoskype", and use the regular expression:

^..\x02.............

This accurately identifies the skype traffic, obviously when used with mangle rules.

Thanks for the insight, unfortunately using an oldish telkom modem, which mikrotik would u recommend?
I don't really care for 720p..just a very stable 360p can do for me.

I don't know much about networking but i can almost always get it done, when i read how to do it..thanks to google
