Good people,

So, the same boys who had be scurrying around looking for backpacks for school (ended up getting these, by the way: https://thulestore.co.za/thule-narrator-backpack-31l-3643?___SID=U), now need sleeping bags to help them get through the Bloemfontein winters (which I understand can be quite brutal). The primary use is for them to slip into these and then have their duvets on top during the night in their dorms (rather than them carry 3-ply blankets and such). For those who are familiar with both Bloemfontein winters and sleeping bags, are there any reasonable ones you would suggest I look at? Looking at the winter temperatures I assume that the options from from Decathlon (https://www.decathlon.co.za/?query=sleeping bags) would not be helpful?

I use the First Accent Explorer
It is 92% Goose

Nice and fluffy and super light.

Comfortable down to 5 degrees on its own

Thank you! That price though :-(

Your sleeping bag costs more than your mattress. If you even have a mattress.

It will last a lifetime
I also use a very light weight sea to summit inner.

It helps with the warmth and this way I only wash the inner and dont have to ever worry about sending the sleeping bag to a dry cleaner

This hobo here likes to sleep in style when camping

Have a look at MountainMailorder.co.za

Cheaper than buy from them direct. The Vaude sleeping bags are nice too.

I use a Deuter from CapeUnion Mart. The Deuter Orbit -5C, which is decent for most things locally. For abroad I use the Inferno -40C from North Face Summit series. Well worth it, but you wont need it here. SA isnt that cold.

A nice inner will provide extra warmth and keep the bag clean. They can also get microwaveable heat pads to put inside, or a nice water bottle.

The Deuter GIGAOFFICE PRO or so wouldve been the backpack I would have gone for. But they seem to do the lower one

Very nice, and you can get some with a seperate laptop insert included. Mine also has a raincoat from the bottom up over the entire bag. (A lot of my friends who use bikes love this feature).

Deuter has some nice travel goodies too. Toiletry bags. Nice for trips.

As for waterbottles, Woolworths has these nice Manna waterbottles, they work really nicely and last long. Normally in the food section and not the homeware section). I use the more simplistic sage models
