Is anyone still developing slides (E-6) locally? Beith's number is engaged; is it still 011 555 5700?

Jo'burg or East Rand. I've got a roll of 35mm and a roll of medium format, no mounting, just develop. Otherwise I'm going to have to get a digital camera:sick::cry:.

Thanks.

Why the dismay wrt buying a digital camera?

You could always learn to process the film yourself.

I always thought that E-6 was quite complicated (more than other processes), and I'm lazy.

As for digital, meh. I'd be looking in the R 30 k range, cause a D60 just doesn't cut it (the knobs and levers aren't dedicated like my film camera, the focus is slower, the AF spot selector has no lock, etc. I could go on.) And I like the results I get from film. Especially 6 x 6 cm medium format. It can't be beaten. Hopefully someone knows where to develop slides. Then I'm :D.

Why a D60?

Locally Orms do slide, but I have no idea where you'd go in Johannesburg.

I've shot a few thousand shots (one of the advantages of digital) on a D60, that's why I use it for comparison.

I guess Cape Town is closer than New York. If I don't find anyone in JHB, I have to courier the film to Orms. Thanks.

Orms

digital camera:sick::cry:.
I assume you like projecting the photos, and that is why you used those emoticons. Or maybe you need the resolution of medium format film?
I must say, I like the functionality of digital. Sending 35mm slides to Cape Town VS my digital camera? I know which one I'd pick.

There used to be a place in Randburg that I use send my B&W film to for hand developement. I think they might do it or at least know somebody who might. Let me try track down the name.

Thanks MadMailMan, hopefully they'll know someone (or do it themselves).

Ronald Lewis in Elardus Park (Pta) used to do E6 processing from his home. Most of the guys from the camera club I used to belong to used him for developing their slides. I see he's still at the same address, so you could query him.

Drunkard #1, I have to agree. Who am I kidding? Slides are awesome (wish I lived in Cape Town :().

Thanks okes, I'll give qphoto a go.

Idmelsa, you looked at Mier's friend's pics, didn't you?:) To my eye, nothing beats square medium format slides, whether they're taken with a Holga or a Hasselblad.

No, where are those?

I've seen MF slides projected at the photo club. I don't take my D90 with because it will develop an inferiority complex. Anybody who thinks digital can match that has not seen proper slides on a light table. Just look at the colour red. On digital it's not red.

Better finish up those rolls :o

Not to say that I'm not happy with the results of my D90:
