Slimbean + S2 taking forever to boot after normal boot failed on dodgy battery

Hi

A friends S2 has been unable to charge (due to faulty USB connector I think), so I popped his battery in my S2, and turned it on. However after entering the SMS pin, my S2 just went off. Now, when I try and turn it on again, it simply shows the Slimbean loading screen (strobing) and doesn't do anything else.
I already tried recovery, and wiping the cache..

What could I do to get it working again?! :cry:
 
First thing that comes to mind is a full data wipe. If that doesn't work, I'd consider a fresh ROM install just in case something for messed up. However, these are normally fixes for a faulty install, not a dead battery.
 
Ok but is that going to delete everything? I don't have any recent backups, who does a backup when just doing a battery swap? I can't delete everything :cry:

My phone is getting very hot whilst trying to turn on... and after 40min, it's still not booted
 
Make a nandroid backup first in the custom recovery and try clearing the dalvik cache and cache partition.

Yes it would. As already mentioned, make a nandROID backup first.

Out of interest, is it getting hot with your friend's battery, or with yours?

Boot to recovery, and make a backup from there. It is a complete snapshot of your system so you can recover to it if you need to.
 
Once you have a backup, you can safely clear your data, and always come back to restore later if it doesn't work.

I'm still confused as to how this happened. Do you have your battery back in?
 
Are you saying all my contacts, sms's, whatsapp etc are backed up by CWMR Touch v6?

I can try and explain again:

My friend has a S2, and it won't charge, the reason we believe is due to bad USB connection.

So I tried charging his dead battery in my S2, and turned my S2 on, and it booted fine, but after entering my pin, my S2 just went off, and hasnt worked since then.

His S2 can boot fine, using his now charged battery.

If you ask me, I belive the reason is something got corrupted when it was shut down... The battery was very dead when I turned it on, maybe I should have left it for several minutes first :confused:
 
Sounds like a corrupted system indeed, hence a factory reset is necessary.

Yes, a backup in recovery has everything on your internal disk. Data and system files. If you are unsure, run it again.
 
The phone turned off after entering the SIM pin, and the battery was dead, so I think it drew too much power when trying to connect to the network.

But now nothing I have tried seems to be able to fix it. Is there any recovery ROM I can install that can backup my internal sd cards content's before doing a factory reset as a last resort?

I am meaning the phones internal memory, which it referrs to as internal sd.

Anyway I managed to do factory reset from CWM, which didn't delete the files on the internal memory, thank goodness.
I was then able to re-install the Slimbean ROM, and boot.
But all sms's and contacts etc are gone, but then, I have this data backed up from the CWM backup.
However, when I restore this backup I am unable to boot again.

Is there any way I can touch the backup to remove all unnecessary stuff that's preventing me from booting?
 
Yay, after many attempts of re-flashing ROM and restoring backups, I finally managed to get it working, and recover my contacts db and sms db :D

When re-flashing Slimbean, it still wouldn't boot, so I had to do a factory reset in CWM.. which luckily didn't delete the internal memory files, only the data etc that CWM backed up. So I was able to then boot with all my settings/SMS/contacts deleted, copy the backup to pc, and find the contacts/SMS etc in the data tar file. I then copied this to my phone, rebooted, and voila, I have the important stuff back. :D Most of my contacts are on google, but there are still some stray ones floating around which I wanted.

Glad you came right. I was lost after the last post. I know there is an app that can do selective restores, but I can't remember which one it is.

For future reference, use SMS Backup+ to back your messages up to your Gmail account.
