hi

i just want to know if there is anyone else with an SLK that is having issues with it leaking when it is raining or when you are washing the car.

Reason is a friend of mine has an SLK which has been giving her constant problems when ever it is raining or if the car is washed where it leaks into the car.

Mercedes have now come back saying according to their specifications there is nothing wrong with the car and they cannot detect any leaking. they have even gone as far as suggesting that we go a lodge a claim with the Ombudsman as they cannot help us cause the technical report that was generated proves nothing is wrong with the car...

Which model SLK?

I have a 2003, I've had one drip drop on me once during a torrential rainstorm.

Where does it leak from?

JHB/pta rain ?Where does it leak?

its a 2009 model and it leaks from the door frames, mostly on the passenger side. with last weeks rains(jhb) the whole passenger front seat and floor was wet...

See, this is the problem when you buy 2nd rate vehicles, now if she had purchased a Delta Motor Corporation South Africa Opel Monza 160i GSi CoTY, then she would have no problems with leaking.

On a more serious note, is she able to document / verify the leaking independently - perhaps with a before/after/during video? That why she has proof that she can send off to Mercedes Benz in Germany if necessary (a couple of years ago local agents gave a friend uphill - he sent all the proof he had gathered to Head Office in Germany - they sorted it out chop chop)

Worst comes to worst she can upload the video YouTube and send someone like Clarkson the link - nothing like a bit of reputational risk to galvanise big companies

A female with SLK must be a docter or some sort :D

I am sitting with kinda the same problem ( but I had AA do full report on a vehicle and showed it to the dealer) I have no clue if u can do this for leaking roof.

she actually took it to the dealership on her way home and showed them. they just told her sorry nothing we can do. we have taken pictures and made the necessary records of everything. thing is this car has been giving her issues for a while now and its been at the dealership for the better part of the 2 years that she has owned it for them to sort out these issues.

the dealership did at one point offer to replace the vehicle but they did not want to replace it with a similar vehicle of the same value or year model.

This whole leaking thing will make it very difficult for her to sell her car if she wanted to get something else.

Why not take the dealer principal to the nearest carwash and have him witness it himself?

Did she buy it new or pre-owned?

Should be a relatively easy diagnosis. Which MB dealer has she been using?

Is the roof opened when it rains?:rolleyes:
lol ja know its closed

it was a demo model she bought

Alisiaoh, why not ask your SLK friend to have the rubber beading seals on the passenger side replaced?
MB have advised that the rubbers are fine and do not need replacing.

they also told my friend not to go to any car washes that use high pressure hoses as this can cause leaks, and recomends that the car only be washed by hand...

Perhaps she should contact Mercedes Benz SA. Go to their website and lodge a complaint. They will contact you a give the dealer a kick up the backside. They will then take you seriously.

Had an issue with my Volvo once, one email to head office SA and sorted within a few days.

Hope she gets it sorted.

have already done that and MB SA say they accept the technical report that was rendered and that we have to go the MIO route as they cannot help us as its not a manufacturing default

Sounds like the car is a total writeoff. I'd be willing to take it off your hands to save you the hassle of having to sell it privately, because I'm nice like that.

R100 cash price offer, I'll throw in a free towel to dry your friend off after she's delivered the car to me.

wow thanks its an awesome offer, but i am going to have to decline. i seriously cant let you drive in a vehicle that leaks this much when it rains....

On a nice sunny day get into the drivers seat with a torch, close the door and roof. Get someone to spray the leaking side with a hosepipe, using your fingers and the torch for some decent light try and feel with your fingers where it starts getting wet, the torch will help with visual inspection. This is pretty much how they do cabin leak tests before a car leave the factory.

Once you have localised the leak area you can address the problem.

But but but, how will I open my Salon if I don't drive an SLK? :(

:P

Got nothing more to add other than I hope you get the issue sorted.
