I`m getting very slow speeds with Bit Torrent, at first I thought I don't have enough seeds or peers so I tried 8 different files. All of them d/ls at less than 1kb/s.

Is this a sentech - bit torrent issue or is it maybe the fact that I have 6% signal ?<font face="Arial"></font id="Arial">

Give more info:

Do you have a firewall?

Do you use ICS?

Do you see a "Yellow light"? (or green)

Have you tried running 4 torrents at a time?

What package do you have?

Have you seen any speeds in HTTP file downloads etc above 80% of your package maximum ie. over 13KB/sec for 128 package

Let me explain we have a LAN which consist of:
Win98 - Server - P III 500Mhz 128Mb RAM
WinXP - Client - P III 850Mhz 394Mb RAM Running Bit Torrent
WinXP - Client - P IV 1,4Ghz 740Mb RAM

ICS on WIN98 yes I`ve seen d/l of 17kb/s on Download accelerator.
No firewall
Tried bit torrent on the server same thing.

So you have 128.

ICS makes it tricky. It can be done but it is pretty difficult to get decent speeds using ICS.

Do yourself a favour, get the bittornado client at www.bittornado.com

You will most probably see a yellow light. This means firewalled or no port access.

To fix you need to forward ports 6881-6900 (one port per file downloading concurrently - so open 4 or 5 ports 6881-6886) and 6969 all TCP.

When you see a green light, WAIT. Since a gren light means everythings fine.

I would seriously suggest seeking an alternative to ICS but if you get it working for BT thats cool. You will have to play around with the ICS settings to get 6881 forwarded to the LAN.

If it is slow on the server thats another problem and very odd. It should really run fine on your "server".

But please report back on the light colors for the server AND client.
 
No Firewall on the 24/7 connection? Dude you are setting yourself up to get pwned by a port-scanning app...get a f/w asap

Okay, how would you guys suggest to setup the whole bit torrent on my network ? If I have to get a rediredting app what works best ?

I`m d/l gangland from 13 seeds 1,995 distributed 0kb/s - 1kb/s normal ?

kerio winroute firewall.

it has a stateful firewall plus routing and most importantly it WORKS!

you really must look at getting some kind of firewall and proper NAT solution (such as KWF)
 
Its complicated. I download Smallville on release days and usually there are 1000s sources etc but it still goes at 3K/sec. Thats not my fault since other torrents work fine.

Moral of the story is to check for green light, run 3-4 files at once, record data received over x minutes and calculate speed that way. If the TOTAL is still under 10K/sec then you may have a problem.

Dont look at the peers/seeds that closely. As long as you have a few seeds then everything is cool since they are most likely to be way faster than your download speed.

what good is this local torrent group anyways?

whats the benefit?

they dont host all that much stuff and its such a schlep to get registered. why even bother.

couldnt get an answer out of them if they have their own tracker or not

i hate bit torrent. cant get more than 15kb/s download, once went up to 64kb/s which was awesome

ftp/http much better... nothing rivals it, die all you p2p file sharing ... dildo's! [:p]

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?
 
You will only ever be as fast as what you are connecting to, or what you are connected with.

All the P2P stuff is merely a diversion, hardly worth the time to set up a Linux server, so what do you do to make money ? [?]
