I have an ADSL line that gave me little problems and when my exchange got bumped to 10MB I could only attain 5MB to 6MB speeds with crappy SNR values.
A week ago my home alarm's battery went flat and it phoned ADT constantly to notify them. I then realised that every time it phones out my ADSL line would drop the connection.
First thing I did was to replace the POTS Filter on the line and instantaneously my line speed jumped to 10MB with great SNR values. I have had zero problems since the replacement.
My advice is to first check that your ADSL POTS filter is working properly when you have line problems.
