Hi,
I have a 384KB/s account with Telkom but the highest download speed i reach is 40KB/s (when I'm lucky). Usually it ranges between 20KB/s to 35KB/s. Please if someone could help.

Thanks in advance.

40k is the fatest you can expect the 384KB/s is kilobits
When you download it is kilobytes
There are 8 bits to a bite.
So your maximum download speed could be 48.25 kilobytes.
To max out your connection you need to use a download manager such as flashget.
This creates multiple connections.
Cheers

40KB/s is the fastest that you can expect on a 384Kb/s line.

You download in kilobits and kilobytes, they're both the same thing, they only differ in their conversion factors.

The maximum download speed will never reach 48.25KB/s due to network overheads. But yeah he could use a download connection to optimise his download speed. Speeds with downloads that are sourced internationally are known to be erratic, so considering that he's not using a download manager, I would say that his connection is perfectly normal.
