Is there some guidelines to follow to get Telkom to actually do everything ontime? I heard horror stories about people waiting 4months for their adsl. And Im getting the feeling that its gonna happen to me. Ordered adsl two weeks ago and they said that the validation will take a week. Phoned them yesterday and they said that it will take another week before I can even make an apointment to install the adsl. And from what Ive heard, the installation part takes the longest. What should I do, start phoning them everyday to checkup on my order?

I am in the same boat, ordered 7 weeks ago, was told 9 days. After a week was told 'next week', after another week 'probably next week', then after another week ' no ports available'. Then after another week ' port been allocated - will contact you early next week' then all of a sudden the ports went AWOL and ' no ports available, don't know where you got the story there were ports!!!'. Then I gave up and got iBurst. Then I cancelled my current ISDN and telphone line as well and hoping that iburst will suffice...(but judging from the comments on the iBurst forum..!!!??!)

Andres101, do you think the reason people get such bad service is because they just bend over and don’t speak up when they get bumped around like adsl3g was bumped around? And with this question I am not implying that you bent over and took it adsl3g.

I agree, you only get results if you apply pressure. If they say they're waiting for Technicians to validate the exchange, ask to speak to the technicians. Waiting for Installation? Just do it yourself, buy a couple of filters and slap them on your POTS (ie non ADSL devices) Bam, your done.

It took me 1 week from lodging the request to being fully up and running, I've been up for two weeks and the "Installation" is only suppossed to happen on the 29th.

Dunno bout the installation part, I dont even have a phone line yet. But I agree with you guys. This is a business like any other, If you get bad service, you have to complain. Want to come back to where I was going with this post, the reason people get bad slow service. Is it because there is a huge qeue or is it because telkom is incompetent?

just keep on trying, phone them everyday, go to your local telkom office and complain, email them and complain. the queue aint long. their service is slow. it takes them 3 weeks just to test a line. and also they have retrenched plenty of their staff so ya!

 Hmmm... have rethought the thing and have not cancelled my ADSL application. Will hang in there and continue bugging them just for my pleasure until it is installed. Got the iBurst running and have 100% signal - still busy testing it out now, so far so good!! I got the iGo package for my mobility and as a back up. Will see how it goes..... looking good....
Will phone Telkom again today and see what their excuse is this time. My prob with the installation is that they have to cancel my ISDN and give me a new number on an analogue line again so I can't just wait for them to activate the ADSL as my ISDN line is stilll live. The bugger who i ordered from said this would be the quickest option as opposed to converting the ISDN back to analogue with the same number and then activating ADSL. I did not mind changing my landline no as I do not use it.

I phoned them today. Their story changed all of a sudden. Last time I phoned them(yesterday, heeheehee) they said that the validation is complete but they still have to sort one or two things out(sounds suspicious), please phone back next Friday. This time they said that the validation is done but they are still waiting for a "date of installation" to be assigned, please phone back this Tuesday. Wonder what their story will be tomorrow. adsl3g, why are you playing around with iBurst and Telkom ADSL, do you have too much money or are you playing with someone else’s iBurst? I would have gone iBurst if they had coverage in parklands but they are a bit too expensive.

Well I eventually decided on ADSL after my nephew got it (3 weeks wait in Rooihuiskraal) Then I got to be very frustrated waiting for it and when the Taxman gave me some money back I thought what the hell. Get the damn laptop card and see what is what and that was it - I wanted a mobile connection as well and seeing that 3G is not live in my area I just couldnt wait any longer.

Got my installation date today, 21 September. took me about 3weeks to get it. Is there anything that could go wrong resulting in my not getting my adsl on 21 September?

Just about anything as far as I can understand. The ports have tendency of disappearing out the exchange even after they have been allocated.
I phoned their complaints department now and told the lady I am being given the run around by their ADSL section - she said that according to the file it is scheduled to be released from the network section on 30 August and only then installation can take place. She would however escalate and come back to me (don't hold yr breath) but she did give me a reference number - so now I have 2 numbers and no ADSL. Actually she was quite helpful not like the other lot. So lets see what happens.

OK, they actually phoned me back and said that it will only be istalled after 13 September - that is when the 'equipment' is expected from marconi - I assume its the DSLAM ports.

The main reason that telkoms equipment takes so long is the compnay can only buy from one or two suppliers "thats their policy" and wont buy from the cheapest bidder, just in spite.

Quite correct, sburrell. If the supplier is not BEE'd to Telkom's satisfaction, they won't use them! How stupid!
