Slow connection today: 4mbps Telkom ISP ADSL line

Since my 2 Mbps Telkom ISP ADSL line was upgraded recently from 2 - 4Mpbs, I have been reasonably happy.

But since early today DL & UL speeds have been very slow, with very high latency. My local exchange only supports 4Mbps. Swellendam, WC.

Have been experiencing the same issues with my TI 4/10Mbps line.
Pings are through the roof, download speeds are non-existent and pages time out.
TraceRT and pingtests also show extremely high latency.

I've tried several, and it's pretty much the same, mostly even worse, e.g. a server in George.
Here's a current test .. Telkom server in Cape Town

Last Result:
Download Speed: 626 kbps (78.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 242 kbps (30.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 480 ms

Download Speed: 795 kbps (99.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 347 kbps (43.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 255 ms

It's better than the local Telkom server in CT :confused:

I have been experiencing similar issues, my line was upgraded from 2Mbps to 4Mbps last week and a day later I noticed similar issues, degraded speed, high latency etc. Im in Richards Bay, KZN.
 
This is what I am getting at the moment.
Called TI yesterday, and according to them there are no problems on the line.
I am on a 10Mbps line.

How do your'll test the line speed? Forgive me for being a noob, I'm quite new to ADSL.

Do you guys reset your connection when you have these issues?
If I notice in degradation in speed I just log onto the router page and go to the basic settings and click apply.
It automatically resets your connection and it always fixes the issue for me.

What about just resetting the router, would that make a difference?
 
I try not to always turn the router off and on unless that's not what you are referring to?
I've found the method I mentioned above to be the quickest.
 
Mine has also been very slow today on Afrihost... I thought it was because the world was tuning in to the Memorial service.

This has now gone from the sublime to the ridiculous ... my latest result from a few minutes ago

Could it have anything to do with the fact that the world's media is in SA covering the Mandela memorial at the FNB stadium, and using all the bandwidth :confused:
 
My 20Mbps VDSL has also been really slow today, guess that it must be due to the happenings today.

The above is my 4 Mbps line with Telkom ISP ... it's now been like this for most of the day. This test was a few minutes ago
