Slow international speeds

Hi there,

I just got hit with slow speed on international traffic. Local traffic is a bit subpar also but nowhere near the international traffic speed. Did a couple of tests through the day with different devices (all over ethernet). These are the best results. Package is 1000/200 Pure Fibre Octotel/Afrihost (Cape Town).

If you are using Windows, please ensure you have the correct tcp window scaling by running the below command as admin.

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

Our international links are currently underutilised as we turned up more capacity on Equiano when WACS went down and now that WACS is back up we have that capacity back.

I found the issue.

One of our Octotel NNI links is throwing port errors. Will keep you updated on the solution.

We will be doing emergency maintenance at 11pm tonight to change the qfsp transceiver and clean the fibre to see if the errors will stop. We are unable to do it earlier due to very high traffic levels.

We swapped the transceiver and cleaned the LC connector. The errors are gone for now but we are not happy with the optic levels. We are chatting to Octotel to check on their switch.

@AfriNatic Just an update from my end. The local throughput is fine now but international throughput still froggy. I've tested over the last couple of days and these are the best results. Seem to all be at its best today.

Some international CDN's I'm getting as low as 783KBps download speeds but when I slap on a VPN connected to a local server it jumps up to 200Mbps+ where I hit the CDN's speed limit.
