Slow laptop away from domain

I have a window 7 64 bit laptop.. configured on a SBS domain...

It work find at work.. but once I am off the domain if run like a dog.. and hang's everytime you access the filesystem.. it is probally a security thing...

any ideas ?

I've experienced this before... it was a shortcut either on my desktop or somewhere else pointing to a file/location on a networked drive/server. Think along those lines rather than security.

I'm also guessing that it's some kind of a network resource, like yazzo said.

Does it remain as slow when you make a VPN connection to your office?

If you don't have VPN access, just try to block your domain's subnet on your router, because I'm guessing that your router/ADSL modem is trying to establish connections to your domain's subnet via the Internet.

When I moved out of my parents' home, my laptop still sent quite a big amount of MB's data to my parent's subnet over the Internet, due to network printers being installed.
I simply blocked their IP range to prevent my ADSL from being used for private IP addresses, since I didn't know what was still trying to access stuff on my parents' subnet.

Typical.. my vpn won't connect ... so i can't test.. removed everything from my desktop...

will have to try fix the vpn on monday

Disable the webclient service, reboot and see if it's better.

Another thing that may cause this is mapped network drives. If you have a script at work which map drives, you can safely disconnect them and it will be mapped as soon as you log on to the domain again (check with your IT staff).

You probably have mapped drive(s), try disconecting it(them).

Also check your network settings - if not set to auto, then set to auto for home use after noting the settings prior to changing.
