Not sure if my problem is related to the problems mentioned in this thread.....
Since early Saturday (11 June 2005) I've been experiencing >50% packet loss from my ADSL link to one of my clients on Diginet. Further tests have shown that 60 ping packets respond then 60 are lost, and so on. Have also tried this via another ADSL link on another ISP and have the same problem.
traceroute during the minute that the site is responding shows the normal path whereas during the minute that there is no response, only the final hop (i.e., my client's Diginet router) doesn't respond.
Response to other sites is normal - although rather slower than before this weekend. Also, pinging my client's site from an ISDN or a Diginet link exhibits no problems.
Have spoken to Telkom and to my ISP as well as to my client's ISP and have now finally been told that everyone in the country with ADSL on the SAIX backbone is experiencing these problems because of some kind of bandwidth disputes between SAIX and IS.
Despite Telkom's test centre confirming that there is no problem with the line, they still want to send someone on site - I suppose so they can say that "it's not the line, so we're going to bill you!"
My ISP doesn't appear to be too interested as the traceroute stops at another ISP's router.
I logged a problem with my client's ISP on Saturday evening and also sent them a detailed email with traceroutes, etc. Now they tell me about the SAIX/IS dispute.
I'm not sure who or what to believe! No-one is prepared to take ownership of the problem and I can't do my work! And I don't know who to shout at or where to turn to for help. One ISP suggested I move my ADSL link to IS. However, I'm not sure whether IS would even speak to a small company like mine!
Is there anyone here that can give me any pointers? I really am desperate! If I knew that another ISP could give me (reasonably) uninterrupted connectivity (whether it's 10/20/30GB capped or uncapped), I'd sign up right now! But as far as I know they're all on SAIX - other than some uncapped ADSL links which I believe are experiencing major bandwidth issues. What's support at this sort of level like from Axxess, or from Imaginet?
