Since last Tuesday Night I am have been getting disgusting speeds on Astroweb. This weekend it peaked at best at 100k and that was for a short time.

Otherwise I normally get 10 to 30k a second. Funny enough during peak times to seems to stablise on 30k a second, but after hours its gets worse.

Before Mweb's so called upgrade I would get during the week (after hours) around 60 to 160k and the weekends 100k to full speed.

Now since the "upgrade" 10 to 30k during the week, and the weekends that may rise to 100k.

Mweb I now ask you again... Is there a problem on your network or is astroweb been targeted for aggressive shaping. Please be honest with us.

Please people I am not talking about MWweb news now.. I am talking about international based news servers.

I am scared whats going to happen when Mweb do the next upgrade due in October.. will be able to download at all then

Anyone else that using other international based news servers.. do you get simular speeds on a 4 meg shaped Mweb uncapped.

I'm only on the 384 uncapped, shaped connection, but connections to astroweb lately struggles to connect, never mind download. Luckily for me the mweb news server seems to do at least 30k most of the time on recent stuff, which is acceptable. Older stuff is a problem though.

Strange. This weekend my Astraweb connection was sitting tight at 380 - 400k. Not always like that.
Weekdays are heavily shaped to about 10k. Weeknights usually go at 180k, and hit full speed around 2am.
So don't think it's really an MWeb problem.

Good Afternoon

Please note that you have a shaped account with us and your account will therefore be eligable for shaping. Please also note that the Astroweb site has been identified as Peer to Peer.

Kind Regards, MWEB

We understand Astraweb gets shaped, but 40Kbs after hours on 4meg line is not what i signed on for. It`s like throwing money away, because we not really using Astraweb?Your shaping policy is making uncapped unusable.Almost R1000 rand for 4 meg ,539 mweb & 430 telkom.Been with mweb since uncapped service started but i have to jump ship. You guys started out great but this last 4 weeks has been a nightmare. How do you justify heavy shaping on a weekend and after hours.?

Yusie it's really very simple. there is a finite amount of bandwidth available for P2P, which scales at different times of the day as the demand for priority traffic decreases. If you get less throughput today than you did yesterday it doesn't mean we shaped more heavily, it means more people were doing P2P so you got a smaller slice of the pie.

Haha, fbman isn't going to be happy with those replies MWeb. But what he's reporting is far slower than I'd get with torrents or with filehosting downloads. Doesn't seem like your network actually works perfectly wrt sharing shaped speeds.

Not a lot the OP can do but vote with his feet. I'm not always happy with p2p speeds either, but if it was too bad for me to cope with I would make the move to a more suitable package. On the other hand, I would rather have my p2p shaped than suffer throttling on all my traffic after some arbitrary threshold. There are many ways to enjoy and experience the web beside p2p. Now if MWeb would just fix this gaming latency once and for all...

Mweb is clueless. See the feedback thread. This is a known problem. Some Astraweb users are getting full line speed and others 20 KBps. Rep knows this but tries to obfuscate by changing topic to and keeps repeating blah blah p2p and mweb news server and ignores the very obvious problem. Shut up slave.

I have cancelled.
