Hi people,

I am having issues on newsgroups, only get 4kb/s on 512 mweb uncapped account. Do some of you experience the same?

My torrents are maxed out at 5 kB/s on my MWeb 4096 uncapped.

Although when I woke up they were hovering around the 1 kB/s area. So I had a 500% increase. :D

My Axxess Express+ is also boned

Int - 0.43 down 0.23 up 786ms (London)
Local 3.42 down 0.43 up 555ms (Midrand)

Called Axxess and they said IS should not be shaping Express+ accounts at all and will investigate, in the same breath I was told IS have purchased more bandwidth and are waiting for the equipment on order so they can use the bandwidth, Maybe it is all part of the Maintenance they are doing on the 17th of May.

All I know is it must be fixes, telkom is tired of me reseting my port, as my line works fine

caching has a major impact on free non-premium newservers. and i'd guess they put the NNTP protocol on a very low priority too. phone the call center and tell us what they say

if you ask me, I think it's right that they limit the NNTP protocol. I'm also on Mweb 4Mbps Uncapped and I have to say that they do manage to limit the total NNTP download speed to less than 5kB/s during the day, but I can get full speed at night :)

The answer you are looking for is Layer 7 packet inspection, MWEB and most of the other ISP' uses this tech.
It disects your traffic and packet by packet (similar to capturing wireless traffic where you intercept WEP keys) and if flagged as torrent / mass downloading application your IP gets throttled during business hours.

There are ways around this though by the way ;-) im experiencing full speed downloads 24/7 - have done 370+Gigs sofar with no throttling affecting me.
