Is anyone else experiencing extremely slow speeds. I am on the MyWireless Professional (256kb) package and up until yesterday I have been receiving extremely good speeds, and then. Now I don't get speeds above 4KB in the day. Early morning I get good speeds.

Yesterday hasn't been too good here either. Not nearly as bad as yours though.

I've experienced the same excruciatingly slow speeds since a few days now...
even on local sites...
must be sentech improving the user experience

to illustrate :

Speed Test
Your download speed is: 1.92 KBps, or 15.36 Kbps
The test took 278.561 seconds to complete

Update:

still seeing these medieval download speeds (upload seems fine). Am going to write sentech and give it another week, then i cancel my contract..

Sentech speeds

From where are you zerofivetwosix?

I've had crap speeds since Wednesday the 17th.

Email them daily with speed tests (which vary between 0 and 2KB's), and they just say they are adding me to "the ticket".

Apparently there is a problem with the service in the whole Cape Town area, and all towers are affected.

Now they say they are opening one big ticket and red flagging it. O, and the "compensation fairy" is going to visit me. Gee, thanks.

I have also been promised by Nowire a visit from the Compensation Fairy..
Apparantly its the whole cape town. And the deadline to have it "repaired" was the 19th of August. Hello but isnt today the 23rd?? This is indeed ridiculous, I feel ripped off as Im sure so do many of you. Now what do we do about it? I spent a half hour on the phone to sentech call centre finding out that there is jack that I can do about it. And feel lucky for your speeds, mine stands at 0.75KBps or 15.32Kbps and took 915 seconds to complete. This is Nuts!!! 5 minutes to load default home page! Anyway always enjoy a good rant. Thanks for listening.. Later

Bees, I am from Welgelegen, Cape Town. I have also been sending the Speed Tests on a daily basis and they have also been adding that to my ticket.

They say it is congestion problems on the line and the link between Cape Town and Jo'burg is going to be upgraded. My question is. What happened on Wednesday, 17 August 2005 that so drastically changed our speeds? Their so called "Routine Maintenance" has caused endless frustration.

I use my connection mainly for Terminal Services into work, so that I can work in the evenings without hving to be at work, and this is now simply a major frustration that I can't get more than 2KB.

What are we paying? What kind of compensation are we going to get for this frustration? This reminds me of a year ago, but 10 times worse for me.

sending them those daily speeds tests takes like 30 minutes of my time, b/c they are so slow...
haven't heard anything about compensation yet though, i'm hoping it will be a Vodacom 3G contract...

Yip. Seems better. Must do a speed test tomorrow, but speeds look ok.

Now I still wonder about that "compensation fairy"... :D

I wish!!

My speeds are sadly still slow. What email adress do you guys keep emailing your speed test results to?? Coz I dont wanna be skipped when or rather if the Compensation Fairy comes to Town. I'm still functioning at ridiculous speeds. Took half an hour to load this page and will prob take the same just to reply..

Slow speeds in CT

Well our connection was flying last night! We also have had major speed problems the last few days, getting transfer rates as low as 9kbps. The best we got in this time was about 40kbps. All of a sudden, last night, the mars rover picture downloads in just over a minute and downloading a users manual from the Nokia web site, the transfer rate is running at around 12kBps, which is what it used to be before they stuffed around with it last week! We are on MW128 and my wife uses it to work from home through terminal server. Some days it was so bad she couldn't work and had to go out for retail therapy to keep her sanity!

It would appear as if the speed problems is Cape Town of a few weeks ago are back again. I have over the last few days seen a steady decline in the download speeds I am getting.

Tonight, after performing a Speed Test, my speeds are at 3KB. I have mailed Sentech to open a Service Call. Last week and the week before that the speeds were great!!!

Is anyone else having these problems?

Crap, not AGAIN!? I was down Tuesday and yesterday, but it looked like something on our side. Will check how the speeds are tomorrow. Using ADSL 512 in the evenings, so it's quite painful to use Sentech during the day. I even check my mail before work in the mornings, as I fear the fact that Sentech might be down again and there's important mail waiting.

Retail therapy!? Every time Sentech goes down! Sheesh, you and your wife probably go shopping VERY often! :D

i tried to use skype tonight, and the connection is just so bad it's unusable.
ironic that this happens AFTER i participated in the speed test over the last week with really stable and fast connectivity.

rpm: i hereby wish to point out that my test results might not be representative of Sentech's general service.

Personal opinion; Just my 2c; but I have been using Sentech for over a year, professionally. I have the 256K package.

Attempting VOIP over Sentech is madness, I tell you, madness ;-).

Your transfer rate is enough, but your latency is just so bad, it is not doable. Imagine the worst type of long distance phone call you have ever made; Imagine Tannie Skoenie in Nommer Asseblief. It will just not prepare you ...

Like I said, just my personal opinion.

On the other hand I have about 6 months of graphical data showing the average latency to international sites, so ...

i've been using skype for over a year now on my sentech connection to phone to the US and europe and mostly, the connection is cristal clear. But there those bad days...
am downloading the new skype beta now - with improved voice quality!
ja well, i'll see how it goes...

Had no speed problems today, using Sentech at home currently. Goes like a dream. (*Touch wood*). I'm going to try Skype a friend in London and see how it goes. Will report back.
