Hey Guys! Is anyone experiencing slow or intermittent speeds when browsing the net? Often when typing an address into the browser the browser says "looking up host" for a few seconds which never used to occur. Could it be due to the UUNET and SAIX fiasco?

I'm with Internet Solutions and am definately getting slower international speeds overall though, mostly in downloads though.

I am positive Telkom is "choking" our ADSL throughput - especially those who are using peer-to-peer or download accelerators such as Flashget or DAP. As the DSLAMs are getting busier the higher the demand for bandwidth will obviously be on the backbone/platform. It is obviously that the throughput has almost been halved over the last few weeks and download speeds have come down drastically. Even the ISP's piggybacking on SAIX selling these highly capped services will have a problem as their customers will have 30gig or whatever but ain't going to be able to download it at the current rate. Maybe the "unshaped" guys can comment?

PS I heard some guys get better ping results on dial-up

midiking - keep an eye on our forum, monday gonna be a good day for the public, everyone can jump on and signup for FreeProxy.

I got no problem browsing the net, but slow like hell if try to use any P2P program. I guess good time don't last long, I miss the old good day when i can download at over 160 kb/s through P2P; as for now, over 1 kb/s is a miracle for me!! Haha, it is pretty ironic that as technology advancing, boardband speed get faster while the actual usable speed is actually just only as good as a dial-up service.

Yeah unshaped is even slow. Was good at the begining now it is becoming ****ty. I play WoW and I had reasonable speeds but now it sucks 1.1s latency to the server.

Think the solution is simple, the bandwidth demand has increased with more and more people switching to ADSL but telkom has not increase the international bandwidth capacity to meet this demand. And i'm not talking about that high capped accounts just in general.

Not to sound mean, but saix unshaped and saix shaped is pretty much equally linked to bad performance, ive noticed a burst of new users coming from unshaped saix to our vpn for instance.

I can only conclude that its because of saix unshape running pretty much partly shaped.

Clipse I agree.
I read thought the telkom is upgrading their international bandwidth soon, not sure if it is only on the undersea cable or if it will be on the sattelite link for ADSL as well.
I think we need a 3rd national operator in this country, AT&T or some other place to come and teach the people here what it means to provide a service.

If i stay connected for long my connection slows, but if i just reconnect then its back normal.

I have been abusing my machine .....speeds are terrible post 1pm....the morning is tolerable.
