Got a 64GB verbatim (yes it's real) that's fsck slow <4MB/s write
I've tried it as exfat, ntfs, policy set for better performance.

It had linux on it and windows would not delete or format the uefi partition so I had to run 'clean' in diskpart and could then create a new partition & format it.

This thing has never been this slow, 10min for a 2GB copy... Any ideas?

Make sure that USB debugging is disabled in your BIOS.
Set legacy USB options (if available) to auto.

I have had the same bad experience with some flash drives.
I've got a 32GB Sandisk flash which underperforms in comparison to another 16GB drive I have available.

USB2 and I've tried it on different ports.
This won't improve it as much, but I also suggest that you change the drive performance setting in Device Manager (assuming it's Windows).
Set the drive to better performance, from quick removal.

Already done that.

Not sure if it's the same drive, but check the comments here:

Seems normal when searching it on Google as well.
I got the same limited results and fixes when I attempted to improve performance for my 32GB Sandisk.

If you could check how it performs on another PC, it should give some better indication to you if it's normal or not.
I made the mistake of starting to mess with drivers and USB tools to get it to work. I finally gave up and realised it's just sht slow.

Edit: Just please don't mess with your drivers. I had to reload Windows because I messed up drivers of other components.

If you buy several units of the same flash drive you will normally find that some devices are faster than others. Unfortunately it sounds as though you have got one of the slow coaches. These days I usually pay a bit more and purchase USB 3.0 devices as a slow large capacity drive is not very useful. These are not the fastest USB 3.0 devices available but they are quite cheap and the write speeds are usually around 20MB/s or better.

Probably clutching at straws, but does dmesg show up any problems related to the mounting of the disk?
