Slow video buffering (YouTube)

Sorry man, iburst and steaming just dont go together. Look at something else for now, im doing you a favor.

The low quality videos will stream on iBurst via youtube. Anything else it is best to download and view later (schedule a download between midnight and 8am in the morning).

My advice is to find some way of trying it for yourself. Do none of your friends or family have an iBurst modem you could borrow? iBurst are still cheaper than the best 8ta and Cell-C specials.

According to the iBurst coverage map, I'm in a poor coverage area.
About six months ago I was doing an online course that required watching a couple of hours of YouTube videos every week. It was painful, I had to wait for the videos to load almost completely before I could start to watch them. Now I am doing another similar course and the videos are streaming perfectly.

Since the time I had problems, the following things have changed:
  • I upgraded from a 1Mbps modem to a 2Mbps modem
  • iBurst have improved their routing/peering/upstream providers
  • I switched from an omnidirectional antenna to a directional antenna, aimed at a different base station
  • I switched from Mozilla Firefox to Google Chrome, for watching videos only

Is HTML5 video working for anyone on iBurst?

Every video I try shows 'This video is currently unavailable'. They work fine on the same computer on a different internet connection.
Edit: Browser is Firefox without Flash plugin installed.

iburst 2mb terrible on Youtube

I have the 2mb Modem from iBurst, lately youtube is terrible, even on 360p i cannot play longer than 3 seconds at a time.

If i download a file from any site, I get full speed 2megabits per second.

i am using DU meter to check what happens (not the best tool but it gives an indication). When I play a YouTube video it downloads at 24kbps, when I download a file from any reliable server it downloads at 210kbps.

i have excellent signal where i am... Basically under the iburst tower.

Surely iBurst is shaping youtube?!? :mad:
