Slow VM Data Speeds

Remember my problem with vm? I thinks this is my problem, in my area, I thinks I am too far from the tower, so maybe that makes my data so slow, that I cannot even open a page, except google. I tried anything possible, I spend more than an hour with vm data guys, and nothing improved.

Also experiencing really slow connections since yesterday. Usually force connection to VC tower few 100 m from work and get a reasonable connection, but everything is slow now. However this is pretty much what I get at the moment on my VC sim anyway. Is VM joining the masses?

Thanks Piesang, I tried and it worked! Much better speeds. Damm I like this site!!!!

I've forced VC roaming on my phone as well and get better latency and reduced lag. Is VM/CellC's network still being improved to cope with the demand?
Remember that time is money and at the current state of affairs with the horrible latency and lag, the 50c/MB is creeping up to R2.50/MB. I roughly arrive at this figure by the fact that I have to now spend MORE money on the other MORE expensive networks in order to get a MORE reliable or less frustrating connection.

Well, my speed is also slower again....could this just be that the network is congested? From round about Xam till 4/5pm? Will see later tonight what my speeds do...

Its painfull, evertime i try connect it connects to virgin then it switches over to vodacom and then it is useless! VM internet is strating to iritate me!! Please help Piesang

Here is the e-mail from Virgin Mobile after the complaint about the slow speeds.

Hi Piesang

Thank you for the feedback below, really appreciate it. We are aware of the problem and have sent many cases to Cell C already.

Could you I please ask. Do you by any chance have the numbers that have this problem also do you what speed we were actually getting?

Regards...

Well my speeds are OK again now...

Just for fun i forced my cellphone to roam on the VC network....OMW!!! It was as slow as Hell! Mybroadband took over 2-3minutes to load!

Back on CellC roam/VM tower, and loving it!

How to run via Voda on a VM datacard login?

Also experiencing painfully-slow and often stalled access on VM via a datacard (N. Jhb, using the new 128K VM SIM). Unfortunately can't see any way to switch to running on the Voda network on my datacard (with the Dashboard software) as recommended in this forum. How exactly do you switch the card to access via Voda please when using a VM SIM, as stated here? Thanks!

With the Vodafone Dashboard you will click on TOOLS, SELECT NETWORK, MANUAL and SEARCH NETWORK. From the eventual selection choose Vodacom and click SELECT. It should then succesfully connect to that network.
Im not too sure about EDGE coverage provided by Vodacom but remember that it will a GPRS connection that will be established as opposed to EDGE on VM.

PS. The searching and connecting bit takes a while so be patient.

Erratic VM data connection

I also tried VM's GPRS offer, but it is useless in our area (Modderrivier/Kimberley). It connects, but no data is received (Using Nokia 6020 + IR). The strange thing is that it works fine with my CellC simcard... and both use the vodacom tower! Virgin mobile works in Bloemfontein, but it's much slower than CellC.

It is very clear to me that some of the speeds people are getting are actually while on the Vodacom network. Vodacom's GPRS and so-called EDGE speeds are pathetic. I've mentioned it numerous times, but nothing has been done to it yet. My connection is a lot better since being on VM.
