Good day.
Please help. I have a d-link dir-825 router, when connected with a LAN cable my internet speed is close to 400mbps although i have a 1gbps download and a 100mbps upload. However when i connect throught wifi i barely get 100mbps download or upload.

I have used various devices to test from laptops to tv to cellphones and all get the same download speed.

I have used various internet base test sites to test speed but all tend to be the same.

Do i buy a new router or can this be fixed?

Both., The 5ghz has slightly higher download speed. I have even tried changing the channel of the router to 1, 6 and 11 but the same results. My distance from the router is about 2 meters away and on all test i only had one device connected.

Does your devices actually support 5Ghz?
Check that first.
Even if the router supports it, your devices, phones, laptops, PCs also need to.

Hi, yes it does support 5ghz
Its a D-link dir-825 (AC1200)

Laptop picks up only 2.4ghz and cell phone huawei P30 pro picks up both 2.4ghz and 5ghz.

There is only about 10mbps downloads difference between 2.4 and 5ghz.

You are testing your Internet connection, where it seems your issue is currently on your router, local network.
Rather change router settings and test large file copy-paste on your network to see where speeds improve.
Testing your actual Internet connection to rule out local wifi problems is not the correct way. The problem of slow Internet could be with your ISP, so verify the actual network first.

Check that your devices are not set to IPv6 , but IPv4, set same on your router. I has exact same problem, for some reason when I changed my password on the router for WiFi and updated my TV, it set it to IPv6 on the TV. Switched it back to IPv4, boom, fixed.

It will be under IP Version on your router.

Thanks it is on IPv4 but still the same. I have even reset my router to factory settings and the firmware is the latest.

I am bit lost now. My concern is that i have a 1gbps download and 1000mbps upload internet speed. With my internet service provider. When my laptop is connected through lan to the router i get close to 600+mbps download not the full 1gbps. However when i am connected to the internet through wifi on the laptop or cellphone i dont even get 100mbps. How would testing my network speed help?

Because the issue seems to be with your Wifi setup, not your internet connection.
It doesn't make sense to test Internet connectivity speed over Wifi if the problem relates to actual local Wifi configuration problems. Your only chance to fix it is to use standard troubleshooting procedures.
There's too many to list here, so you need to do some Googling.

Hi there

Did you manage to come right on this? I am having exactly the same issue with this router

Well that router is only rated for 300Mbps wifi speeds on both 2.4 and 5ghz, with overheads and given wifi is a shared medium, 100mbps is not uncommon (with interference etc)

D-link DIR-825 is an entry-level AC router that will not handle that kind of downstream speed. If it is what you really need, then you need to consider a move to something a whole lot better and a little pricier, like Ubiquiti. Alternatively (and preferably) split routing and wifi components, otherwise downgrade your ISP speed to match what your router is capable of.
