It seems our exchange has been updated to a 10mb (from 4mb) and from tests it seems it's running at 1mb line speed. Afrihost says it's a telkom issue. If I contact telkom what do I tell them to prevent being sent around in circles?

Seems it's syncing at 4mb if the router is anything to go by : Downstream Upstream
Data Rate (kbps) 4089 511

I've seen this with some of our clients.
Telkom might have upgraded your line to 10mb, but because you might be far from the exchange or have bad copper,
You line cannot correctly sync at 10mb,
the solution is to call Telkom and ask them to re-sync(or recreate your port) line to 4mb.

If it still doesn't come right, you can pm me your line number and I can check the sync speed.

Hello.
Sorry i would just like to hijack this for a quick reply.
Can you please tell me the correct Telkom number to call?

I have been offline for a week, maybe more. I logged the no-service fault on the 14th but zip has happened since. I tried calling the number on the website, but I don't get through.

Just log a fault and tell them bad speeds when syncing on a 4meg. Happened to me on Tuesday your speedtest will start off at 4meg speeda and then just drop to like 0.60.

Why wouldn't it just stay at 4mb though? It has dropped.

Thanks, but my line is totaly dead, voice as well.
And the 10210 number if perma busy. Cannot get through...

that's weird, you can alternatively call 10217 - This is for business users, but I'm sure they will put you through.

Does telkom ever answer? Been holding for 32 mins already.

Oh well at least after a 100 years I finally figured out how to use the speaker phone function /ends optimism

Pretty okay stats all round, try the afrihost 1 gig free capped account and see if the speed matches

I would if they answered their phones. At this point I can't even remember the question anymore.

Haha, ask them to recreate your port.
You can also dial 10217 and they might assist or transfer you to the right people, sometimes it's quicker.
Or you can just hang in there...

Which area in Jhb are you at?

She says they are working on the exchange. Port reset didn't do anything.

I think they keep you on hold until you have no fight left in you.

Thanks for the 10217 nr. They answer at least.

Contacting @TelkomZA on Twitter or on the forum might get you some quicker responses.
