Went down to the beach the other day, took my camera with of course - its stays in my boot, so it's with me all the time.

Was chilling on the beach, and i wondered if it was wise to take it out.

Do any of you guys take your camera to the beach? I would think that sand and a camera wont mix too well.

All the time.

You can always wrap up your camera with a hotel shower cap if you're worried but avoid changing lenses at all costs

WoW - fantastic man.
Thanks - the beach is a good reason why you might want to keep a crappy kit lens after upgrading. Most of the time I use the 17-55 that came with my camera so I'm not going to be too phased if it gets trashed. :)

Always take my Camera to the beach...

Love the shots taken from the beach, and yeah like bwana says... avoid changing lenses at all costs :)

As has been said, also, taking pics on the beach is one of the few times I use a filter.

Don't get down to the coast much these days :(

Nice shots.

I'm not too phased by sand and the 17-55 kit lens but it's also the only reason why I got a filter for my 16-35mm f/2.8 II L lens. I wouldn't mind a hood for the kit lens though - flaring is a problem.

We're quite close to the beach so it might still be worth picking one up.
Bwana you have a good eye for photography, clearly shows that it doesnt matter what camera you have, you need to have an eye to take the right pics.
Hey sony man - you dissin' my canons! :p

Thanks :)

Do you get in the surf or is it all from the beach?

it's all from the beach (with my 300mm - seriously want to get a 500+)

even if i bought the waterproof housing for my camera - which costs more than my camera by the way - i'd be too scared to go in the water with it.

i'd rather get another decent point and shoot and housing for that - and upgrade from there.

or maybe when i replace my d70s, it can move to that role :)

I've just about decided I'm going to get the sigma 150-500.

I have, once - I've only been on a beach once since I got my camera :(

Just don't change lenses while the wind is blowing. The sand worry me though. It wasn't even windy that day, and I never once put my bag down, but when I got home there was traces of beach sand in my bag.

where from?

And at what cost? This 'hobby' is quite $$$ - especially for a n00b student like me. Still got a few years worth of saving before I can lay my hands on my own dSLR

Hey jou Gordonsbaai pervert! :p
The wind will always be a factor here...

good advice there, bwana.

SO the kit lens can come in handy after all.

I have wrecked many p&s camera due to sand getting in the zoom mechanism and sliding cover.
