Just got an e-mail from university admin

" There is a chance of power interruptions after a small accident at Koeberg Power Station, with Unit 2 being put offline... "

What qualifies as a "small accident"?

Edit: ta! :)

Sheesh, a crane falling on power lines...thats one bigass accident if you ask me.

I would consider accidentally pooping in your pants a "small accident"...

What is a crane doing right next to the main transmission lines in the first place? Surely they planned the actual work, and calculated in some risk? Ok, so I'm overly positive.

lol - good point Nod. Luckily there won't be any power failures...or so we're told

Koeberg Unit 2 has been shut down 3/30/2007 6:22:11 AM
Eskom says Koeberg's Unit Two generator has been shut down.

This follows an incident where a crane hooked on to one of the lines that connect the unit to the transmission system.

Eskom says neither the generator nor the turbine was affected by the incident.
Unit one will be handling most of the electricity load servicing the Province.

Eskom's Tony Stott says they don't anticipate any power interruptions.
