Hallo Forum members,
I am new on the forum and I hope that I do everything right and that you understand my bad English. But, at least I have now a spellchecker, with the new Microsoft Explorer 10, in English and German, but not in Afrikaans.
If I want to write in Afrikaans I have to use the Firefox browser. It seems Firefox is the only one with an Afrikaans spellchecker.
My problem is that I can not receive Internet radio stations anymore. Nearly always they are interrupted.
With Simsy I have the most problems. Mr. Louis van Rooyen from Simfy tested, remotely from his home near Germiston,at night, my computer. I stay in Alberton. Louis found nothing wrong. He believes that Telkom is the problem.
I have 1 Mbps uncapped Internet from Telkom and, except from Simfy, I had not many problems in the past months.
Now I cannot listen to most Internet radio stations anymore. They are always interrupted. 4 to 6 times in 1 minute!
Maybe the problem is my Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 I thought, because the browser is giving me problems. But MATRIX Warehouse in Alberton found nothing wrong! Also the browser does not function always.
I am not willing to pay R620,00 for the yearly subscription of Simfy if Simfy is always interrupted.
But, the other day when I could not listen to Simfy I tried rara and was surprised. Rara did not interrupt for 2 hours!!! But I cannot listen to my own music longer. I want something like Simfy with a Artist radio or a Mixed Radio like last.fm. The mixed radio should not be my music but similar music.
At rara.com I cannot find something like artist radio. Rara radio does not play my type of music. Also only a few songs are in Afrikaans on rara. Of course rara costs only R33,99 monthly and now the 3 months special only R6,99.
But it does not help me. I don`t wont to listen to my own music only.
It seems to me that rara is more for the English speaking music lover.
Simfy is a German company and only in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Belgium and now also in South Africa and their service is 100%.
Because Simfy is in South Africa they can try and sort out a problem. But Rara has no office in South Africa.
last.fm was the best!! Last.fm Mixed radio played my language as well as mixed with Afrikaans songs. And last.fm was cheap. Only 3 US Dollar monthly. The subscription could be paid in Dollar, English pond or in Euro. I paid +-R27,00 monthly to the USA with my Visa credit card and Paypal. It changes according to the exchange rate.
But last.fm stopped transmitting to South Africa, because the have no licence they said. I believe that they had not enough subscribers. Uncapped Internet in South Africa is still expensive and not every one is listening to Internet radio and from the Internet radio listeners is not everyone willing to pay for a music streaming service.
My questions are now: Why could I receive Rara.com, without any interruption, but not Simfy Africa?
Wat is the minimum bandwith to receive the Internet Radio stations?
Is the minimum bandwith 256 kbits/s as required by rara?
Is it possible that the Telkom 1 Mbps uncapped Internet drops the speed lower as 256 kbits/s, maybe only for 1 second, and the Internet radio station loses the signal?
But only for + - 2 week I have this problems with Telkom. Before it was not too bad. Except of Simfy Africa.
But also Simfy I could receive at times, without any interruption for over 3 hours!!!
Could it not be my computer, Explorer 10, and Telkom that I am not able to listen to the Internet radio anymore?
I have the Speednet.test and the PING is mostly 25 ms and the download speed + - 859 kbps. But the Ping was last week 104 ms and 322 ms and the download speed was only 568 kbps.
Can I not download a small Speed-tester, only to check the minimum download speed, from the Internet?
The small tester should always be on at the bottom taskbar and show the lowest download speed.
I hope that it is possible to prove that the Telkom ADSL line is the problem.
Thank you very much for your help.
