Hey All

Anybody using a smalltalk environment?
I'm using several depending on the project at hand.
Currently porting a very large app from VAST5.5 to VisualAge8.5
Also developing an app in Pharo. Although its using seaside I'm still exploring alternatives.
As for Seaside, well, its pretty amazing. I'd encourage anybody with time to try it.

I am trying to set up a South African Smalltalk User Group. You can search for it on facebook but it doesn't seem to be wildly popular. Weird...

Resurrecting this thread, I am a smalltalker... using mainly GemStone/S and Visualworks. I know of 3 companies using smalltalk. RMB (Sandton), Momentum and Finworks (Centurion)

Now you know of 4, Inspired Org PTY (Ltd) in Cape Town, where I work.
I do know about Finworks and Momentum. Didn't know RMB did, which is interesting cause I know the Chairman of RMB Treasure.
I use mostly VAST (VisualAge) and Pharo. Lately been getting into Amber which is amazing!

Well actually 5 but www.equinox.co.za used to have a smalltalk system but they are no more (bought by PSG and moved to their existing system).

I work for Momentum.
We use Gemtalk (GemStone/S) with VisualWorks as the development IDE & Client UI. Currently we are working towards a Seaside environment and getting rid of Visualworks (cost per user licence is ridiculous, especially if you consider it is priced in dollars). We are planning to go the Pharo route and rather use products from the opensource/GLASS community.

I know some smalltalkers at RMB they use Visualworks as IDE and UI with a Sybase database.

I also know some smalltalkers at Finworks, they also use the Gemtalk (Gemstone/S) with Pharo as IDE.

You wouldn't happen to know any Smalltalkers that can do Test Driven Development? We are always on the lookout for some good developers.
