Hi all,

We need an IP system for a few reasons so can’t use DVR. I see Hikvision only seems to offer their Acusense tech locally on the 16 channel NVR, and cameras are pretty pricy. Like 3k each. Uniview offers human body identification too, but can be bought in 4 or 8 channel systems and have less pricy cameras. Any quality differences you’re aware of?

Thanks!

Not tremendous aversion but more of a bias. I don’t really want to buy a PC for this, or have it running on my laptop. Extra power use compared to dedicated hardware. Blue Iris’ AI seems to need you to send the data to their servers to process. So data use plus if the network dies you don’t get identification. With eg Uniview the smart cameras can do a lot of the work before it’s sent to NVR. And I don’t know if BI does “ultra H265” or one of the proprietary super efficient codecs. The latter seems to improve how many higher end cameras you can run through the same NVR with a given bandwidth. Might be easier to hide NVR than a powerful PC.

I am looking at some kind of offsite recorder and smarts, but that’s a different phase of the problem! Are there local recording/analytics resources you’re aware of that won’t break the bank?
