Smart ID - Collection Process at home affairs

Has anyone recently collected their ID, do you need to queue to collect or can you make a online booking to collect?

Any info on what is needed to collect would be appreciated.
 
My son collected his at Wynberg in Cape Town. We had to join the collections queue.

I collected mine a few weeks ago in Richards Bay. Could not do an online booking for collection.

There was a separate queue for collections, there were about 10 people ahead of me and each person took 2 to 3 min at the counter. It took me about 30 min to get in and out.

Queues and processing time will probably vary between branches. I was told dont go at opening time, and to rather go an hour or two after opening so the morning rush gets cleared
