Hi

Please could you share your experience here...

So I've just had my quad lnb replaced with a smart lnb. My setup is as follows

Primary decoder : explora 1
Secindary decider : old HD pvr

The old setup had a switch and then cables from the switch to the explora - 1 cable and to the HD pvr - 2 cables to sateleitte 1 and two.

When i got home - I found a seemingly new cable to the explora (now working as the old lnb had cracked somehow and gotten water in from the rain) and the HD pvr showing error 30-4 - validating subscription. I also found the switch disconnected completely and lying next to the TV.

It was doing this before (HD pvr 30-4) as well but multichoice said this could be the lnb issue. Its still doing it now.

So I called them to clear the error and they say it's cleared but it's definitely still there...

How should the connections be? Should the switch still be in use? I can see two cables still in the HD pvr, but not sure where the other ends are or where they should be.

Thx

You have to be far more accurate about what HD PVR you are talking about ( the 2U, the 2P, the 4U, 4T).
Next what switch was removed. ( A 2 x 4 MS, a 5-2 Explora switch or a 24-1Z switch).
Next what model SLNB was installed as a replacement for the quad LNB?
How have the two decoders been connected together with the HB cable? RF port to RF port?
What port has been used to connect the HDPVR to the SLNB? is it the correct port?
What are network settings on each decoder?
Which decoder is the Primary? Presumably, it is the Explora 1?
Are both decoders in the same room or in different rooms?

I presume you got an accredited installer in? Why did he leave before both decoders were working properly?

so now you should only need 2 cables out the smart lnb , one to HD PVR and one to the Explora
you also need to go into the settings of the hdpvr and ensure that the nb options have SATCR selected.

you might still need the heartbeat cable (i'm not sure if you can skip this on the HDPVR i could be wrong)

The HDPVR ( any of the models) definitely require an HB cable input on to one of the RF ports. The Explora 1 also requires an HB cable as it is unable to send or receive HB via the SLNB ( unless it is equipped with a diplexer.)

Thanks for the reply... I'm no expert so bare with me.

The decoder is the 2 tuner model and if memory serves me it's the 2P.

Ill take a photo of the switch in the morning.

Not sure the model SLNB installed.

The two decoders are connected with a HB cable from rf to rf

I am not sure the port used to connect the hdpvr to the lnb. I had assumed it was sarelleite 1 or 2. What should it be?

I'll get the network settings. What specifically are you looking for?

Explora is the primary. Both are in the same room together.

Yip was an accredited installer. Unfortunately I was not home and my family were not sure what to check

Definitely the hb is connected and working.

I will check the HD pvr setting. Under which menu is it?

OKay, we are making progress.

One of the satellite ports is marked "SATCR" on the HD PVR 2P That is the one that must be connected to a cable coming from the SLNB.

I don't have an Explora ( The Exploras are all junk as far as I am concerned, with the 3A being the worst decoder MC has ever released).

On the HD PVR 2P:

Press <menu> on the remote, advanced options, network setup,Installation/LNB type, which should be set as "SATCR/SATCR Universal.

Select that option and I think press the white button on the remote to bring up a second menu This menu should list 2 UBs and frequencies which should be default be UB 0 Freq 1210 and UB 1 Freq 1420.

save those settings exist all the menus and reboot the decoder, If it completes the reboot process and scans properly, then nothing is wrong with the settings on the decoder.

Next you could verify that the decoders are correctly coupled under XV.

The HD PVR 2P:

menu, advanced options, Xtraview information, the screen should say Secondary Comms status Idle or receiving HB and there should be an indication of when the last HB was received.

Next go to

menu, Information central, HGPC status, where the SC should be Secondary, and the Explora SC should be listed as Primary. If all of this is okay, then the decoder should receive an error 30-4 reset when sent by MC.
If it still does not, you may have a faulty decoder on your hands.

You could try and send a reset yourself via SMS.

*120*68584#, work down the list of error messages until you find 30-4.
Or via the web on dstv.com

Pretty sure it's the 2p. This is the switch...

PS - which connection would clear the validation

Okay, that 5-1 switch is incompatible with the newer Exploras, especially if you are trying to connect more than one device via unicable.
The switch is incompatible with an SLNB as well.
The settings on the 2P as I have posted. You really do have to now help us further by supplying the info I requested re the network settings on the Explora and on the 2P.
The service authentication process is totally dependent on the decoder being able to receive signals via tuner 2 on the 2P. If that is not set correctly and working, no amount of effort in resettings the decoder by you or MC is going to work.
Once we are sure the networks settings are correct, and the problem persists after sending resets. then the only left problem is the 2P tuner 2 is faulty. It could have been damaged by water ingress into the previous LNB.

Thank you so far. I have the Explora 3A, a SLNB Lmx502 and a HDPVR 2P. The Explora 3A has only one RF Port for the cable from the LNB. How do I connect the two cables from the SLNB (one to HD PVR and one to the Explora as you said above), but how can I get a HB to the HDPVR?

I have this.

Not sure which LNB

I can connect an Explora (DPS500 or PS5100IMC) and a HD Decoder (PACE865) at the same time.

I cannot for the life of me connect the two Exploras at the same time (Tuner 2 and Tuner 3) will not pick up a strong enough signal (I want to swap the HD out for one of the Exploras)

MC says the LNB is slightly misaligned - how does one confirm and rectify this?
