This seems waaay .
Almost similar to Google Glass, except for the rear view camera.

Motorbikes just got safer: Smart helmet has inbuilt GPS, a live feed from a rear-view camera and even reads texts out loud.

• Skully, based in San Francisco, claims its P-1 helmet is the first motorbike helmet with a digital heads-up display built in
• It will show maps and realtime views of blind spots on a heads up display inside the helmet and can connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth
• A beta version of the helmet is set to be available this summer, but no price has yet been released

could be worse... it will take some smooth talking to get the wife unit to approve that kind of spend, though :/

A high end Shoei helmet probably weights half as much and offers twice the protection. Cant really be compared in that way.

I'd say you can buy a comparable shell for around R4-5k. Add on a bluetooth set and GPS from your phone, and you've got the same thing minus the HUD for R7k (assuming you would've had a phone anyway )

Fair enough. Looks like a Bluetooth to the phone would cost about R 1650.

Either way, we will let the usual early adopters do what they do best, and hopefully 4-5 years from now almost all helmets will have HUDs
