Morning,

Decided it may be time to get a new TV for the living room in the 65" range. The first requirement that came to mind was that it had to run Android TV as the OS.

While I love my Shield and will continue to use where ever I move the existing TV to I want to try and go for a more minimalist approach by not having all the little boxes around the TV.

Anyone suggestions on this?

Ideally I'm looking at something that will run Netflix, Showmax and Plex (client) at a minimum. Being able to cast to the TV is a plus and DSTV/Supersport aren't required. Everything else is a bonus.

As above the Skyworth G6.
Or if you have a lot of money and can wait , Hisense has 2 high-end TV's that have Android TV.

Ooo, quick replies, thanks! Something to look at as a start.

Guess the use of Android TV hasn't been widely adopted by the big manufacturers as yet?

Some manufactures are stubborn, Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Hisense insist on using their own platform.

Only Sony and philips uses the Android TV platform and as you Know they both don't sell TV's in SA

Hisense might over the years introduce Android TV to their cheaper range, hopefully.

I'll put your mind at ease regarding the Skyworth, think of it as if you are a basically buying an LG TV since the Skyworth has an LG IPS panel.

That's not how it works, you might have an LG panel but everything else isn't LG. That's like saying think of an iPhone as a Samsung as it has a Samsung panel.

Looks like Sinotec is Planning to Launch their own range of TV's running Android TV, one seems to be a rebranded Skyworth G6 and the other seems to be a newer model that comes with Android TV 7.0

Been doing the Google thing, big names that use Android TV (Sony, Phillips) don't supply to SA anymore. Options are thus to go with a rebrand or stick to a big name with an added device

Messaged Sinotec regarding this TV and they said they plan to launch them towards the end of March.
