Hi everybody,

In a bit of a situation here and need some advice.

I stay at The Upper Eastside Hotel (apartment blocks) in Woodstock Cape Town and Smart Village seems to do everything in the building, from managing the intercom/telephone lines to DSTV but more importantly, Internet.

Their pricing is ridiculous for what people are getting, my neighbor is paying R339 for an uncapped "up to 1mbps" line, their lines aren't exactly fast from what he showed me just by downloading a small 4mb file which took a few minutes.

I wanted to know if anyone knows what type of system Smart Village uses in these big buildings/estates? I was wondering whether I could use my own ISP? I don't think I can get Adsl though because my neighbor told me they don't use Telkom lines/ use fibre lines?? - but what other options do I have to get Internet?

My main issue is that I can't really call Smart Village up and say "I want to know if I can use my own ISP because your packages are a rip off" I'm pretty sure they'll tell me they the only option? I read somewhere that Smart Village opened up their system to other ISPs, can anyone confirm this and whether or not I can then use an alternative ISP?

Thanks in advance!
