So I write a thing where the entire point is that you don't need the latest Android version to get security updates (or feature updates for modules that your phone launched with) for most things (unlike Apple), and you say that in reply?

I would bet it's safe to assume that a majority of flagships released in the last 3-4 years are on Android 13/14 and that they're basically all still getting security updates, so same as Apple.

It's the latest data from Google. Not some third party.

I am not disagreeing it always takes a while to get newer Android versions and some get left behind, it's not the same as Apple where there are a handful (well, has become a lot more, Steve Jobs would hate it) devices, but the entire point was that it doesn't matter. How versions are deployed in Android and how they are for Apple means that it cannot be compared.

It says "until at least". That means it could be more.
The whole article is conjecture.
Google has not backtracked yet (they might still). Android 22 might be released before October 2031. More than 10 Android versions have been released before October.

Why ?

I have 150 apps that needs updating for the last two years and working fine without updating them. Only the banking app that needs to be updated to work. Oh and WhatsApp now and then.

My experience is if you update something, the chances are bigger that something won't work. Only update if something stopped working.

I understand this sentiment. I only update apps that I use.

Apples build quality has deteriorated badly over the years, their phones are no longer a long term investment, the way they were 10 or so years ago. SAMSUNG also seems to start giving problems after 10 years, so built in redundancy is a thing. The costs also make them poor choices for anyone not looking for bragging rights. Easier to get a cheaper phone for a 10th of the price and replace it every years or so, you land up saving 10's of thousands of Rand's every 2 years. I moved over to Huawie because I am not dependent or fixated on Google apps which I can happily do without, they have however now priced themselves out of the game. I am at this point quiet happy to just get a PEP phone.
