Need some help..

I live in an estate that that has smartvillage internet and would like to share this internet connection wirelessly.

I have spoken to numerous people and apparently I require a Broadband wireless router?

Can anyone recommend an affordable wireless router that will do the job and where I could purchase this?

Thanks!

what will the distance be from the router to your users

Its a two bedroom apartment, so not more than meters...
At that range it sounds like you can just use a standard wireless router connected up with whatever device it is you use to link to that smartvillage system.

EDIT: they have a hardware guide: http://en.calameo.com/read/00013586275f585850330 (not very useful)

Looks like you just need a standard wireless router to plug into an RJ-45 port in the wall. TP-Link are good. Uniterm Direct has some good pricing on those. Tenda are OK but the interface is not the greatest. There are lots of manufacturers and most routers should do the job. I just recently bought a TP-Link WR1043ND and it is working great with something like 20 devices attached to it... if not more.

Will the wireless routers u mentioned above dial a pppoe connection through the rj-45 port?

Hi,

Little bit of help and advice required:

The Smart Village guy was finally here on Tuesday for a site survey.
Apparently the line is already in the house since my intercom had already been installed the previous week.

I asked for an extra point in the house so that I can have a better choice of where to put either the phone or the router.

The extra point is a luxury, so I can leave it for now.

I fell backwards when I got the quote from Smart Village today:

Additional point: R830
Routerboard (non-wireless): R555
Setup and Configuration:R650
Consumables:R57
Total: R2092

As I said, I can drop the additional line.
Do I have to take their modem? Can I not use my existing TP-Link router? TL-MR3420, its got a WAN port, 4 LAN, and wireless and 3G USB port.
I don't know if SmartVilage connection in the house is fibre? So not sure if a special Router is required if my existing router is not sufficient?

Then other thing: I am an IT person myself, so the R650 for Setup and Configuration is insane. I am sure I can manage on my own. Will they allow it and can I insist on self-setup?

Looking forward to hear your recommendations!

Regards,
H
