SMC 7904BRA router/modem

Hi, I installed a SMC7904BRA router/modem for a friend and it worked fine for 2 weeks. Now no ADSL sync light. My SMC7204BRA works fine at my place and at his. Got new modem, same problem. Supplier said that Telkom has changed the ADSL2 protocols causing all ADSL2 modem to not connect. Is this true? Any solutions?

That supplier sounds like they're on drugs? Call telkom and tell them about it.. make sure u tell them u got another modem to test too and its not the modems fault
 
SMC7904BRA not connecting.

Why did the modem work fine for 2 weeks? Tried new modem same problem. Supplier has said they have tried 20 or more modems with the same result. Other clients also having same problems. No one reporting problem with older version SMC7204BRA. Not one hiccup with it. Anyone else having problems?
 
Getting more bizarre! My friend phoned me and he took his modem to a work colleague where his modem worked fine! Borrowed the colleague's modem and it wont work at his house! They stay in different suburbs and go through different exchanges. All settings and firmware are the same! Anyone got any ideas?
 
Mayb storms in the area damaged something at the exchange.. hav u called telkom yet? The fact that the modem works for someone else and their modem doesnt work for u either makes me think its a telkom problem
 
He did phone Telkom and they "tested: the line and say nothing is wrong. Also say they do not provide support on non Telkom modems. If the equipment is damaged at Helkom, why does my older non ADSL2 modem work?
Maybe the supplier has a point. I dont know.
 
oh damn, didnt pick up that your modem worked there... sorry. Thats really strange, guess another modem seems to b the way 2go

btw: what modem is the colleague using? exactly the same model?

It is the same model: SMC7904WBRA, firmware version, settings. Since yestersday we have managed to obtain a brand new SMC7904BRA (non wireless). It has the same problem. My friend has managed to find a futher 2 colleagues who bought the same model modem/router based on how well his had worked. They also had no problems for a month or 2 and in the same week their modems started doing exactly the same! It definitely seems to some kind of upgrade/rollout at Telkom that causes these particular modems to suddenly stop working.
