I currently run SW 2.0 using an internal ISDN modem. I am about to order MyWireless (USB) and would like to continue using SW.

Will SW just recognise this device as a PPPoE device or do I need to install a Linux driver? I have noticed that RoDent has written a driver for Linux...but would it be reqd for Smoothwall??

I suggest getting a new ("red") network card for your smoothwall and getting ahold of an ethernet cable for the IPWireless modem.

Maybe ask them if they can package your modem with an ethernet cable rather than a USB one ?

Otherwise, you'll have to shell out another R250

I wrote a quick HOWTO on smoothwall and MyWireless, it's somewhere on this forum, altho it's so easy to setup.

it's possible to load custom drivers on smoothwall, but I don't think smoothwall is running 2.6 kernel, so rodent's driver won't work.

anyways, you'll still require the usb cable to load your modem with your username and password since that can't be done using the ethernet cable.

Sorry, but I have no interest in porting this back to 2.4 kernels. It's USB structure is a nightmare and the kernel locking even worse.

If you're going to be using Smoothwall, it going to have to be the Ethernet cable, or convincing them to produce a 2.6 kernel series Smoothwall

Thanks for all the feedback guys...

I understand where you (TheRoDent) are coming from ...I should maybe just install Linux with a 2.6 kernel (Fedora ?) and configure it as a gateway with a DHCP server which is really just what Smoothwall is??

It's very easy to just install your own 2.6 kernel on Smoothwall.

I'll see if i can make an extension for smoothwall though to include a new kernel and your driver.
