Hi,

We've been running smoothwall as firewall behind the Marconi router for more than a year now. The Marconi router is used in bridged mode (factory default). Everything worked fine until sometime last night/this morning, when there was an apparent power failure. Since then the PPP log says
pppoe Session XXX terminated received PADT from peer
pppoe Sent PADT

and the smoothwall reboots every 5 minutes (as it is setup to do when there is no connection)

I've installed smoothwall on a different machine, and it says something to the tune of Timeout waiting on PADO. There was also something about full-duplex and half-duplex, so I suspect the comms between NIC and Marconi is not working.

When I use Windows XP in the same way, i.e. bridged mode PPPoE, it works.

I used the same crossover cable between the Marconi and my notebook as is normally used between the Marconi and the smoothwall.

I would appreciate any suggestions as to what to look for next.

Regards,
Nicki

Methinx 2 things to check - continuity on your cross-over cable, and your Smoothwall NIC (1st machine). In the 2nd machine, the NIC is probably not running at 'full-duplex', which I think it should be. On the 1st machine, the NIC is probably FUBAR...
