Hypothetical situation :
You're using Smoothwall/IPCop to monitor and log traffic and sites visited.
Then two/three months down the line you get a visit from the local goon squad, telling you that somebody downloaded something illegal via your account, and that they'll seize your PC's.
Can your firewall logs be used to prove that it was not you who downloaded said sick stuff?
-- Same situation as above but --
User X logs in, and start downloading illegal stuff, which is logged on your firewall. Goon squad comes for a visit a few weeks (or days) later, demanding you turn over your system.
Can your firewall logs also be used in this case to clear you of any wrongdoing?
Just want to know regarding the law - so that I can inform a client of mine accordingly.
