Right, as I was saying to bwana in another thread yesterday. Need some kind of system to monitor internet bandwidth of all computers connected to a network without installing any apps on all the computers, just one dedicated box for this. network is set up like this:

Netgear DG834GT ADSL router connected to 12 notebooks through WiFi, and then 3 desktops wired directly to the router (one being the box for smoothwall). Now in this config will smoothwall work, no other switches or anything needed?

THNX.

Are your wired and wireless machines using the same IP range?

Hi there

I'm not exactly super experienced with either Smoothwall or Wi-fi, but I don't think your system will work as intended.

In order for Smoothwall (or IpCop) for that matter, the system needs two interfaces (red and green etc etc..) For your setup it sounds like you need 3.

Smoothwall should control the router ideally, on the red interface. Then you would need some other wi-fi equipment to make it work on the purple or whatever interface is meant for wireless. The few directly connected computers will connect via the green interface.

I'm just using some theory here I've picked up while reading through IpCop's documentation. I would ask The_Librarian, he's the super Smoothwall guru around here :)
