Hi Guys,

We are currently doing an university project where we must send a few SMS's (+- 50) from our system. I looked around but most providers only sell bundles of 500+ SMS's.

Does anyone know of a provider with smaller bundles or even a couple of free SMS's?

SMSPortal gives you 100 "free" credits but you can only send: "This is test SMS from www.smsportal.co.za For more infomation please contact us on 0861112021 or email [email protected]. (www.smsportal.co.za)". Unfortunately this doesn't help us much as must do a proof of concept.

Thanks

I can give you 50 free test credits, we also have an API.. Will PM you.

If you don't come right you can pm me and I will let you have access to my system, I have one account with about 2000 credits that I don't use.

the 500 they sell are credits. whenever you send a normal sms, you use up 1 credit. The credits do not expire, so buying a bundle of 500 would mean you can send 10 x 50 sms notifications before having to buy another bundle.

don't see how that would be an issue? I still have an sms bundle I bought 2 years ago that's only half used

Because the money they spend on the extra 450 credits could go to something that won't sit around for two years, like beer!

Do you have to go through an API? Can you not send them locally, eg via a 3G modem?

We are not required to go through an API, we just have to send SMS's. I have never sent SMS's from a 3G router. Is it a long process?

Not the router - the little USB dongle. And provided it is a huawei and not a HiLink huawei, it is quite easy. It does require sending AT commands and you can format the whole thing in PHP before ditching it to the AT command.

It does require understanding - even if only rudimentary - of the PDU format.

BulkSMS.co.za is cheap - the community option will get you 200 SMSes for R42 - and will probably be easier. But if you want to use the AT method, just shout and I will put the code together.
